Quote from: HVC on December 14, 2023, 10:07:32 AMI guess yi seems centralist on most social issues , but he's definitely a righty where the economy is concerned.

Yi favors free market economic liberalism, which seems to me to be a centrist position.  The right favors market intervention for it's purposes, and the left does the same.

That's an interesting definition of right and left. It's not what I agree with but I can see why in the American context it might make some sense.

I suppose it demonstrates just how far right American politics is in general.  Having a free market  is a dog whistle for no regulation.  A right wing policy objective.

I was not trying to define center and left, just provide an example of how they differ from Yi.  The American right is not at all about the free market, though it is, as you note, opposed to regulation.  Regulation is essential to a free market.  A free market requires sufficient and accurate information about potential purchases and sales, which requires regulation to weed out the dishonest brokers.  The right wants to intervene in the market to eliminate those regulations and thus make the market less free.

I agree with your characterization, but I disagree that it applies to Yi, at least based on the posts he makes here at Languish.  He seems more a libertarian free market type.

The right being against regulation whilst the left is for big government is a post Reagen fiction. It is an interesting development with the rise of modern fascists to see the established liberal domination of the right crumbling as the more traditional morality police right tightens it's grip.

I find the terminology confusing as especially  in the American political context.  When you are speaking of the established liberal domination, are you thinking of classical liberal thought or something else?

Portugal placed 4th in world cuisine. Have no idea what Taste Atlas is, but I have absolute faith in their methodology and results :P

UK seperated and right near the bottom.
Japan above China.
No.

A problem also is who gets to claim a dish. Most of the good Japanese dishes have origins elsewhere, largely China.

If its purely about quality of food today then the UK would objectively be premier league.

The true rank.

Title contenders  -

China
Italy
India

Champions league contenders -

Japan
Greece
Thailand

Secure Premier league -

UK
Mexico
Lebanon
Turkey

I agree. England should have been much lower ;) :D

*edit* As to your edit if you're highlighting g Japan for food origin then England gets worse. Your best food is from India. Even fish and chips, which is mid, is from Portugal and Spain

Also weird that all the counties have their English spelling except for turkey. They been putting up a stink or something?

They've formally requested their name is Turkiye internationally.

Interesting. Still pronounced the same way? Recently manufactured nationalism thing, or has this been a concern for a while?

Their request is ridiculous and should be ignored.

Pronunciation's a little different from what I've heard.

I think it's a bit of both. It's always been Turkiye domestically and they've been pushing for this for a while. But also apparently Erdogan doesn't like that Turkey is also a dumb bird

I think it's a bit like Mumbai, or the use of Pinyin spellings.

We should rename the bird turkiye
