You'd think they'd get along. They both hate fun.

*edit* as to your edit, the "west" knew the world was round from like 500BC

Oh yes.
As they were leaving I said "Oh you're the ones who don't do christmas right?"
"Thats right, we don't have to worry about it.
"Happy...new year then?"
"We don't believe in that either."
"So...You don't believe in the first of January"
"We see the calendar has changed dates and that is that"
"OK. Then...Just....Happy in general?"
One replied nicely. The other glowered.

Joyful. Really selling themselves here.

Quote from: Sheilbh on December 15, 2023, 03:27:32 AMNot sure I agree in regards to the half a point I agree with. There's lots of anger, rage, conspiracy mindedness there, I think. Constantly calling for investigations into x decision as "misconduct in public office".
This is not really ringing a bell of recognition with me.

QuoteIf you self-identify a core part of your politics as being rational and evidence based which the other guys aren't, then I think it can lead you into thinking the only possible reason anyone could do anything else is because they're either basically evil or all corrupt.

Not evil or corrupt.  I don't think of Berniebots as evil or corrupt, I think of them at worst as misguided.  And at best just having different priorities than me.

Quote from: HVC on December 15, 2023, 05:59:43 AMI thought Montreal pastrami is dry cure? In which case dry :D

The one place I always hit in Montreal had the option of dry or wet, the wet being greasier.  Is that not a standard thing?

Below Croatia and Serbia what the hell? And Poland gets a pass because of pierogi but otherwise their cuisine is like any other Eastern Europe one, except with added cabbage.

You're so vain you probably think this throwaway line is about you :P

I think it's safe to say you're not a centrist dad or the type of person I think there's half a point about (which is always generalising anyway). Although I think on the American side it would maybe be the "Resistance" types who got a little overinvested (I was guilty too) in Mueller.
Let's bomb Russia!

So...

There is not a single country in sub-saharan Africa listed.  I'll freely admit I'm barely familiar with the cuisine of Africa, but that seems like a massive blind spot.  Ethiopian food certainly has a following, some west african dishes/cooking are supposed to be quite good.

France at 8 is a failing.  "French cooking" is the standard for almost all western fine dining for a reason.

India at 11?  The thing about Indian food, much like Chinese food, is it's such a massive country there's a massive number of regional dishes.  How do you compare it with something like Greek cooking - which I love, but tends to be a little more one-note.

I struggle with Canada (and Australia) - we have some excellent food, but very little of it is "Canadian cuisine".  I mean what's a uniquely Canadian dish - poutine (which is Quebecois in any event)?  Nanaimo bars?  Or we might have Canadian spins on the cuisines of other places in the world (such as "Hawaiian" pizza which was invented in Canada, or ginger beef which is a staple at any Chinese restaurant, but is a Canadian spin on Chinese food), but does that really count?

Do we get credit for Tex-Mex or does Mexico get that?

Not sure the best thread for this--but our boy Rudy Giuliani was just hit with a 150 million dollar judgment in his Georgia defamation case.

Not in the slightest.  He's been struggling to pay his legal bills.

His downfall has been quite a spectacle to watch.
