They are not part of the European Union. I don't see any reason why we should accept their status as tax havens anymore though. We should write that on our list of points to negotiate during the divorce.

Seems to me that taxes are an internal matter. I don't see how there would be any authority to demand it. Kinda like the EU requirement to keep your debt under 60%. Looked good on the treaty, but nobody does it.

This thread is making me think about whether I hate baby boomers or millennials more.  I'd say I probably still hate boomers more, but the millennials but are giving them a run for their money.  Didn't think I'd ever see a generation do that.

Simple economics is the problem.  The new generation plants simply cost too much, and the construction overruns have been brutal.

Did they think wishing Brexit wouldn't happen on social media would make it so?  As much as I despise the Boomers, those Millenial cretins are truly loathsome: they can't unglue their faces from their phones long enough to go vote then they moan about 'stolen future'.

Yes, although we've proven time and again the lifespan of these plants is upward of 50 years or more, so most operators will recoup their investment. But it's certainly not the enticement of other sources, that's for sure. I think nuclear could've been an important source of "base generation" as we transition to carbon neutral power production, but it is simply not to be, we aren't willing to make the investments and the antis have won the political debate.

I think the edge has to go to the Baby Boomers, if only for longevity.  And intent:  Millennials are still collectively too young to know any better.  The Boomers did it on purpose, their finest act of self-reverence yet.

I agree that the referendum was constructed extremely poorly. It just expressed what the voters don't want, not what the voters want.

The options beside "Remain" should have been policy alternatives such as "become member of EEA" or "just have a FTA". That would give guidance to the government. Now it only knows which option is not acceptable, not which options are acceptable.

Read some articles in Swiss newspapers about the Brexit. The Swiss voted to stop freedom of movement and have a hard constitutional time limit until February 2017. They now realize that the EU will not even talk to them in the aftermath of Brexit and there is no way the issue will be resolved until their deadline. They face their own constitutional crisis now by wondering whether they should extend the deadline for implementation of their own referendum.
