I don't think the Libs are under any illusion.  The NDP neither.

The PQ, I don't know.  PSPP is a populist wild card.  The more he speaks, the less I like him.  I'm not sure what his supporters think.
Blanchet will think what PKP tells him to think.

A lot of businessmen thinks they can rekindle ties with the US, we just have to give them something they want, sit down and negotiate.

I'm not sure if Legault hopes for a permanent deal or stalls for time while seeking new markets.

And Don Davies to lead the NDP until they elect a new leader.

The White House released a video re: Carney's visit and it was pretty positive:

I like that they quoted Carney as saying Trump is a "transformational president". That's not wrong

Saw a wag comment that Carney is deploying blandness in defence of Canada. It might be true, and it might be an effective strategy given... everything.

HVC

Guess misses trump doesn't find Carney attractive. That's a plus in the ongoing saga in Canada us relations and trumps ego.

I don't know why we keep making a big deal about this. Trump's words are meaningless and worthless. A performance at the clown show is not liable to achieve anything of significance.
Que le grand cric me croque !

Trump insisted we don't do much business with Canada despite them being our #1 trading partner and said there is nothing they can do to remove the 25% tariff.

So another sterling piece of diplomacy.

QED. Like, what did Carney hope to achieve, and to achieve it for how long?

I'm hoping he's smart enough to know he'd achieve little if anything but knew he had to visit to keep our right from attacking him for not even trying. Carney isn't just fighting trump, he's fighting a (significant?) portion of our own right and whatever influence they can impose on our centrists.

Well Carney is sort of obligated to go there.  All new Canadian PMs do, and it's a necessary relationship building to further negotiation.  Sure it may be futile, but if he doesn't make the attempt then the blame is all on Carney.

And considering trumps volatility it seemed to go about as well as could possibly be expected but I'm sure nothing will change trumps mind other than a genuine economic disaster which may well be incoming this year.

He didn't hope to achieve anything, but he had no choice but going there.

Short term, that's the sad reality.

We have no choice but to pretend we want to negotiate. Hopefully, soften the blow.  Best case scenario, reduce the tariffs a little, but I'm not optimistic.

I just hope every Canadian wakes up to the fact that these people are your enemies. They want to ruin and dominate you.

I think almost all Canadian see it.  Danielle Smith may be the most delusional one in the country.

At this point with Alberta maybe it's better they actually did have a referendum and let the people speak on the matter for themselves instead of it being a political pawn.  Curious what the Alberta posters think of it / Daniele Smith.

I understand Carney had to go. I just don't understand the hours upon hours of punditry, comments, overanalysis of he said/he said. This sort of BS is what reinforces monarchical presidencies.

That's the age of 24 hour news. They have to pass the time somehow between actual news and tragedies.

Yeah,  24 hour news has contributed to people losing trust in mainstream media IMO.  We need more focused quality reporting.
