Ah the dreaded Rams game.  The Redskins play them every year and always play one of their worst games against them.

Eagles are picked over the Ravens?  What am I missing?  Bengals should beat the Browns, but by no more than a touchdown.  Each Bengal win last year was annoyingly close and I think that will continue.  Steelers will win by at least two scores--  I don't care what the Jets did last week, the Steelers always seem to bounce back after a disappointing loss.

Kurt Coleman is just that damn cool. Trent Richardson knocks his helmet off, he mans up and finishes the game. Tressel taught him well.

Of the NFL players I've run into and actually conversed with, they've always been much more engaged talking about their alma mater than anything they're doing for a paycheck now.

Hey derCollinsworth, you talk to them all the time, you ever notice that?

I got an HD TV in January and upgraded my Fios Tv package to the basic HD one and lost some channels in the change.  It seems that I lost the NFL Network and I didn't realize it until a few weeks ago.

You sure you don't have it?  It's not in the sports premium packages, it's supposed to be in the base HD line-up.

edit:  it's in the Extreme and Ultimate HD packages.

Sorry, bro.  Don't be so damned cheap.

I don't watch much TV so I wasn't too worried about it.  I will probably upgrade next week though, unless it is a huge jump in price.

Is becoming?  This is what Cutler has always done.  As the game goes on, he gets frustrated with his shitty blocking and gets more and more erratic.  And even when he does throw a good pass, it gets dropped.

The Bears are suffering under the Curse of Jake Plummer.  His vengeful spirit pursues all those who wronged him.  Cutler is right at the top of that list.

Chicago is the Bengals of the NFC North.  They'll beat up on weak teams, but a quality opponent will crush them.

I almost prefer that to the early Marvin Lewis years where they would pull off big upsets but then frustratingly choke against the lesser teams.

Nah, but with a healthy Forte and some other moves they made in the off season, I didn't expect Da Brats to turn this sour on a prime time game against the Lynn Dickeys.

RG3 had a disappointing loss today, but I'm sure he's licking his chops thinking about the Bengals pass defense he gets to face next week.

Bengals looked great offensively, and Baby Hawk had a highlight reel 50 yard TD catch in which he avoided 6 would-be tacklers.  Pacman Jones got his first punt return TD as a Bengal, which probably ended up being the difference in the game.

I know a win is a win, but this one left you feeling kinda negative about the rest of the season.  The Bengals defense has been just shitty and needs some serious adjustments.  At this rate they'll need to put up 40+ on the Skins to pull off a win.

The Skins lost but I am still feeling really good about how this is going.  RG3 clearly is who I thought he was and why I was in favor of the Skins destroying their draft to get him.  At least they now finally have an identity and something to build upon and a direction.

Actually this was the best Rams-Redskins game of the seemingly endless series they are playing.  Usually it is two terrible teams in a boring and hideous crap fest.  Today it resembled a professional football game.

So the Texans set franchise records for both themselves and Jacksonville today by holding them to 117 total yards on O.  Arian Foster ran for nearly that much himself, then Tate added another 74, and Forsett pitched in with 35 on 6 carries late in the game.  They really kicked the shit out of the Jags.  The difference in time of possession was...well big.  43:17 for Houston, 16:43 for Jax.

I haven't seen it, but one of the guys on the sideline said he had a similar play when he was with the Alouettes.

Here you go, Longhorns;  No. 4 from "Five Things We Learned from the Ravens' 24-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles"

QuoteThe decision to go with a talented, young kicker in Justin Tucker appears to have been a wise one.

As the Ravens attempted to move the ball down the field in the final two minutes of Sunday's 24-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, rookie kicker Justin Tucker warmed up his right leg and relaxed his mind on the sideline. He had already made three field goals, including a 56-yarder that tied for the longest in franchise history, and with the way the undrafted rookie from Texas has been kicking over the past six weeks, you have to figure the Ravens would have liked their chances of stealing a victory if they could have gotten Tucker within 60 yards of the uprights. But the drive stalled and Tucker didn't get his opportunity to try his first do-or-die kick in the NFL, but he said he believes that he could connect from beyond 60 yards "on a really good day."

I know his career is still in its infancy, but it looks like there are going to be a lot of really good days in this quirky kid's future. If he continues to make long field goals with ease and boom touchbacks out of the back of the end zone, we will soon stop talking about whether the Ravens did the right thing by going with Tucker over former Pro Bowl kicker Billy Cundiff. Instead, we will be asking why Tucker was available to compete with Cundiff in the first place.

Composed young kickers are hard to come by, and Tucker has a different air about him than Steve Hauschka and Graham Gano did three years ago. He is very confident, but not too cocky, and seems very comfortable in his own skin, whether he is impersonating Christopher Walken in front of his new teammates or sitting cross-legged on the locker room floor as reporters conduct interviews around him. Tucker also has a big leg and is accurate from long range, giving the Ravens a dimension they lacked with Cundiff, who was 1-for-6 on 50-yarders a season ago. Tucker has already made two field goals from beyond 50 yards and four from beyond 45 yards.

Of course, the Ravens won't really know what they have in Tucker until he lines up, crosses his heart like he does before every kick, and swings his right leg at a football with the game on the line. Then they will know what he is built like on the inside. But it's clear he has a ton of talent and plenty of confidence. Maybe it wasn't that risky to put their faith in a rookie kicker after all.

With my usual Monday Night luck I ended up 0-4 this week, of course I didn't need Monday Night to suck in this league.

In my RL money league I was involved in the biggest blow out two weeks in a row, the first I gave this week I took it.  And the worst part is I got my ass kicked by the worst guy in the league.  He is always kind of flaky at the draft and gets stoned/drunk/doesn't pay attention and always tries to take players that are already picked.  This year in the late rounds (~14-15) he took a guy that was crossed off my master list, I told him he was gone and he got pissed and asked who took him, turns out he had taken him 2-3 rounds before.

Michael Turner got nailed for DUI (and also 97 in a 65) after the game last night.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/eye-on-football/20219676

QuoteFalcons running back Michael Turner was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding hours after Atlanta outlasted Denver on Monday Night Football, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Turner was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail just after 5 a.m. ET Tuesday and was released two hours later on a $2,179 bond.

Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter told the Associated Press that an officer pulled Turner over in his black Audi R8 on Interstate 85 northeast of Atlanta after clocking the car going 97 mph in a 65-mph zone.

"The officer made contact with the driver who identified himself as 30-year-old Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons," Ritter said in a news release. "The officer could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver and proceeded to conduct a DUI investigation."

The former fifth-round pick out of Northern Illinois joined the Falcons in 2008 after spending the first four years of his career with the Chargers. Turner, 30, has rushed for 5,355 yards and 51 touchdowns in his five seasons in Atlanta.

"We are aware of the situation involving Michael and are in the process of gathering more information," the Falcons said in a statement released by the team. "Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time."

In Monday night's 27-21 win over the Broncos, Turner had 42 yards on 17 carries and scored the game's first touchdown.

Nice job, buddy.

Each side hit their projections, but Fighting Nixons scored 46.5% more points than projected (86.66) to earn the win. Frozen Wetbacks was led by Matt Ryan with 20 points and Willis McGahee who scored 19. Fighting Nixons started one player with zero points while Frozen Wetbacks also served up one goose egg, meaning each team left something on the table. Fighting Nixons (1-1, 205 points) shifts into sixth place and Frozen Wetbacks (1-1, 191 points) stays in seventh place.

Fighting Nixons Smooth Moves

Philip Rivers put up 27 points, which was the fifth-highest score in the league this week.
With 25 points, Hakeem Nicks ranked seventh in the league in scoring.
Fighting Nixons had 7 of their 10 starters exceed their projected points.
Fighting Nixons won even with LeGarrette Blount in the starting lineup, who didn't score any points.
The Seattle Seahawks Defense exceeded scoring projections by 138.8%, with 17 points against a projected 7.12.

There was a quote from Kareem Jackson after the Texans - Dolphins game about the scabs that was...strange.  He got hit with a really late flag for a facemask at one point in the game, and he asked the ref what the deal with that was.  The guy apparently told him it "came from upstairs."  I didn't know there was a ref off the field who could tell them to throw flags.

In his heyday he was spectacular.  But he ceased to be a legit #1 receiver before the Bengals realized, but that was attitude-related-- he still had great hands but refused to run after the catch and would just flop down if he ever caught one over the middle.  I guess that's sort of understandable given that he had to play against AFC North defenses.
