The Liberals won Kelowna!  Hell has frozen over.

Legbiter

Carney is interesting to me because of his CV, very 19th. century British Empire. He should plan for marching south to Washington in order to have peace.

My last memory was visiting this thread when that young twink became PM. Long may I not visit this thread.

I blame Jake.

Wait...does he still live there?

CTV shows liberals at 168 elected and 3 outstanding counts (one which they lead) so looks like a majority is off the table.

Quote from: HVC on April 29, 2025, 11:51:14 AMBefore my time but how popular was the NDP before Layton?

In the mid 80's, Ed Broadbent was deigned "the most popular leader in Canada". Everyone liked and respected him. and opinion polls briefly put the NDP in first place! But when the writ rubber hit the electoral road, it did not translate into votes. Broadbent did win a then record 43 seats in the existential Free Trade election of 88, but NDP remained the third party. They had almost no support in Quebec.

Thanks :)

Looking at what is left, I think the best they can do now is 171 - if the flip Maple Ridge - which oddly has a few polls still to report, and they flip the remaining undecided NDP riding in Vancouver.

Yeah, my wife commented on how reasonable Jason Kenney seemed.

Jason Kenney has a bad rap.

Like he's a hard-core Conservative partisan, don't get me wrong.  But remember he got chased out of office in Alberta for not being an anti-vax nutjob.

I don't want Poilievre to step down, and I don't think Kenney (as a never-married, unilingual Catholic from the prairies) would win, but we could do a lot worse for Prime Minister.

But—- but —  only recently 338 was saying there was a 96 per cent chance of a Liberal majority.

If only there was someone here on Languish who repeatedly warned us about the irrelevance of polling
  -_-

I've never lived in Kelowna, but I've visited. IIRC Zoupa lived in the vicinity at some point. Not sure if he still does, or which riding it would be though.

Surely a large minority falling just shy of a majority is easily within the margin of error of any poll.

Oh. You probably just talked about visiting and my brain decided you lived there.

Well I blame Zoupa then.

I blame the hippies that voted green in BC <_< :P

Looks like voter turnout just short of 70 percent. Thought it would be higher

In Kelowna the Lib won by under 300 votes. Not sure if automatic recounts are a thing in Canada, they rarely change the result. Sadly my MP is still conservative as I'm a bit outside the riding borders.

He's been okayish in responding to my questions about Ukraine in the past and he's not a total nutjob, so it could be worse.
