Quote from: Jacob on April 28, 2025, 11:16:13 PMJamil Jivani (CPC MP) has the knives out for Doug Ford, yikes.
Definitely came off in the interview like his buddy JD. What an incredibly unlikable collection of humans they all are.  :yucky:

Really slow vote counts across the country.

We will find out tomorrow if there is a majority or not

Jacob

So I am - as you know - not a Poilievre fan. That said, his speech right now hit the right notes IMO.

It'll be interesting to see how long before our next election...

Bauer

Maybe too early for PP to proclaim they denied a liberal ndp coalition, currently could be 164+8.

Yeah. Very much still a possibility.

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

Interesting how Poilievre's positioning himself to champion the single mothers and the working poor, whom he says he'll fight for. I'm looking forward to seeing how he'll follow up on that during the next parliament.

Jacob

Also - as Chantal Hebert pointed out on CBC - it's significant and good to see Poilievre not casting an iota of doubt on the outcome of our democratic process.

Jacob

I also liked Carney's speech, just for the record.

What are the odds PP stays as party leader after tonight? Jamil Jivani is waiting in the wings it seems, ready to turn the CPC full Maple MAGA.

Good question. Does it matter that he might lose his riding?

"...party leaders can head the government without representing a riding, and although they would not be able to sit or debate during House sessions, they may enter and observe from the gallery". So, it isn't technically an issue in terms of having him ineligible, but it certainly doesn't bode well for his support within the party, his riding, and the nation after tonight.

I think it's probably the end of PP given he's built so much up on himself based on his house opposition.  But maybe if Carney doesn't govern well who knows.

I liked the panel discussion earlier about the people's party getting crushed.  Hopefully signalling an end to appealing to that base.  But I think some of PPs past comments on crypto etc prevented him from being seen as prime ministerial to a lot of people.

Bauer

Liberals and conservatives got 85% of the vote, that's got to be a record.  But let's hope it doesn't lead to US style polarization.

Jacob

I'll defer to BB on the odds of a leadership challenge to PP. I could see it go either way.

Also those of you interested in potential Conservative infighting, here's Jamil Jivani (friend of JD Vance and elected Conservative MP) speaking about Doug Ford (Conservative Premier of Ontario):

That's not a knife in the back, that's a knife in the face.

If all the new MPs are aligned with Poilievre and agree with Jivani then it's maybe not a big deal. On the other hand, if there's a significant contingent of centre-seekers or Progressive Conservatives that align more with Ford then there may be some further turbulence ahead.
