Disappointed the conservatives got so many votes. Won't dissuade their continued drift towards trumpian (far right, whatever you want to call it) tendencies. Let's see how bad the next candidate is.

For all his faults, and he has many, Ford would be a favorable  option compared to the others.

Libs have 161 and leading in 7 so could theoretically get less. Conservatives would.have to lose their remaining lead in 4 for Carney to get a majority.

Poilievre has lost his riding, with all but two polls reporting.

Besides everything else, his support of the convoy really hurt him at the local level.

I hope we find out why it has taken so long for the vote to be counted.  If it is because the advance poll was counted last, and is still being counted in those ridings with one poll remaining then this could still be a Liberal majority with current Conservative leading seats shifting to the Liberals.

If not it's another Liberal minority supported by the NDP.

My prediction for the Conservative leader, PP won't be forced out.  He won a large percentage of the vote, and his Trumpist rhetoric appeals to the wing of the party that matters.

Like Jacob, I am interested to see what he does to keep the NDP voters he attracted.

As for the NDP, they are telling themselves the collapse is temporary and they will attract their vote back from the Liberals. But in a lot of ridings their vote went to PP. I think the root cause is the NDP stopped being the populist choice of the left and there may be no coming back from that.

Didn't expect him too, though.

Quote from: Jacob on April 29, 2025, 12:20:30 AMInteresting how Poilievre's positioning himself to champion the single mothers and the working poor, whom he says he'll fight for. I'm looking forward to seeing how he'll follow up on that during the next parliament.
Doesn't really matter what he votes for or against.  It's how they spin it.

I got the answer as to why it has taken so long for the vote to come in. Election Canada stop the vote count at some point last night and it will resume at 9:30 Eastern this morning. So in a couple of hours, we will know.

Well done Canada.
Though you really aught to fix that fptp business.

I see mention in the thread of NDP supporters voting Conservative. This makes no sense to me. Accelerationists?

Both the Libs and the Cons will be the first Canadian parties to get more than 8 million votes.

I think it's a big segment of the population who votes for who they feel fights for the little guy.

And now confirmation that the ballots still being counted are from the advance polls, so a majority is still possible.

There's more to it than that. There are a lot of ridings that flip between the conservative and new Democrats and never go liberal.

The error Jos is making is he viewing this from a UK perspective equating New Democratics to Labour.  And of course, it would be very difficult to convince a labour supporter to vote conservative.
