Also, I pretty much agree with what you said.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

QuoteOfficers inside the school recovered a long gun and a modified handgun. Neither were registered to Van Rootselaar, whose firearms licence expired in 2024.

Just want to point out that the perp was using those weapons illegally. What I am not clear on is what the legal status of those particular firearms were.

Somebody got video of the RCMP rushing to the school.  They got on scene in an impressive 2 minutes and saved a lot of lives.

Yeah. I was impressed by that response time. Especially when compared to the US.  :(

In regards to the shooter, I'm betting her dropping out four years prior was probably at least in part connected to coming out as trans/bullying. Presumably she then sought out a new source of community and social contacts online and found... the worst possible influences which exacerbated her existing mental health issues and led to the awful outcome of yesterday.  :(

Yeah, from what I have been reading, that seems a likely chain of events.  Also, it seems that her inability to obtain timely medical assistance with her transition had a significant impact on her. That was also about the time she dropped out of school.

modified handgun: almost likely to be no.

One of my friend was working as an instructor and is more well versed than me on the subject.

For a civilian like you or me, you had to have you gun registered before 2022 to keep it.  You can't walk into a store and buy a new handgun and ask for a license.

Existing handguns can't be modded for more than 10 rounds or be made full auto. There are some other restrictions too, but safe to say that other than painting your gun bought and registered before 2022, mods are a big no-no in Canada.

The long gun is maybe a SKS.  What's legal is a mag of 5 rounds of standard calibre. I can't be assult-style semi automatic, but the distinction is lost to me when it comes to the different styles of semi-auto rifles.  Bolt & level actions are permitted.
Registration is not required outside of Quebec now, but will be mandatory soon across the country.

The handgun couldn't be bought legally today for sure, and for the long gun, we'll have to wait for confirmation.  If the handgun was modified, there's chances the other was modded too.  Could have been bought from a previous owner, but not from a store since they said she had it illegally.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you oppose the far-right except when it comes to Jews, but I am.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Can we make a special thread for Raz where he can post about how we all hate jews? It's really tiresome when he just harps on in every. fucking. thread. about the same thing.

We have one. It has a lot of replies. Raz just doesn't have the self control to use it.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

There are less than 400k Jews in Canada.
Antisemitism is a problem and it is being address by authorities.
In return, it really doesn't move the needle of public opinion in either ways.

Raz is once again grasping at straws and projecting American culture wars on other countries and population. Most US based liberals do.

You fucking brought it up with the Nazi thing.  Tell you what, I won't bring it up if the rest of you only discus Trump in the Trump thread.  Deal?

You know, I could come up with an alternate theory of the case that would run very counter to this.

Why don't we wait until the facts come out?
