Bill C-3 substantially revised the path tk citizenship for people born before before Dec 15th 2025.

Parent isn't "immediate" parent and "substantial connection" to Canada isn't requires for the natural born ancestor.

For those born after 15/12/2025 the rules changes slightly.

But it's a very easy path to citizenship for children of citizens.

First, the word meaningful does not appear in the amendments to the legislation. What is required is a substantial connection, and a substantial connection is defined in the legislation as the parents being in Canada for three years prior to the birth of the applicant.

I think it comes down to notoriety. They know their acts and name will be spread across the media.

Not much has been released about the victims, the suspected shooter, or any potential motives at this point.

I suspect the motives are nothing more than another disenfranchised and socially dis functional youth who decided to take out his angst on others.

Plus the copycat columbine effect.

More details are coming to light - there is a history of unspecified mental health issues.

McDonald said police had responded to Van Rootselaar's home for mental health-related calls over the last several years. He said some of the calls dealt with weapons.

He said firearms were seized from the home and the lawful owner of the firearms petitioned to have them returned, and they were.

Officers inside the school recovered a long gun and a modified handgun. Neither were registered to Van Rootselaar, whose firearms licence expired in 2024.
