It's a kids movie.  Don't overthink it.  It was a major character that was owned by Time-Warner so they could grab the rights to use him.

Actually now that I think about it, it's amusing to go back and look at each one of those Phantom Zone villains and realize each is tied back to Time-Warner.

VOldemort? Check.
Sauron?  Check.
Gremlins? Check.
Wicked Witch? hmmm... Produced by MGM, which has a non-exclusive deal with Time-Warner.
Daleks - no conection I'm aware of (Nope!  WB is trying to develop a Doctor Who movie)
General Zod? Check
Agent Smith? check
Dracula? Nope, but public domain baby!

Can anyone speak to OJ: Made in America? Is it really as good as they say it is? The thing is 8 hours long and I don't want to make a time commitment to something overrated.

I believe cel posted he was watching it and liked it.

Same with the Lego movie. I wouldn't expect WB to pay royalties to use somebody else's characters, the days where you could make films like Roger Rabbit are long past.

I've started watching Andromeda.
I've mixed memories of this series.
Back when it originally aired 18 or so years ago I actually quite liked it.
But then it was hit by the curse of chappy scheduling and I totally lost track. Oh how I wish my younger days had the benefit of TV on demand.

It hasn't aged well. The effects are quite terrible. And it is a show obviously aimed at children. Lots of simple lessons of the week.
I also misremembered the chief anti hero Tyr as being played by Jason Mamoa. He is not.
I'm seeing a lot of Proto-Firefly in it. The crew dynamics just seem so similar with the priest with a iffy past, the cool guy/nerd engineer/pilot, the tough female vice captain, bubbly cute girl, tough guy who is often outtoughed by the down to earth captain....
Nevertheless light scifi to watch while I'm cleaning or playing a game.... Sure. I'll continue.

there's a blu ray version where the special effects have been redone, it's a little better.

But season 4 is downright bad, most of the time.

Black List: Redemption
It follows Tom Keane accepting a job offer from his mother after discovering his real father isn't dead.

It's a basic action tv series, like NCIS or Bones, but with characters you don't really care about.  The highly trained killer, the investigative specialist, the infiltration specialist, the boss and the nerd.

Prequel to the movies, with Ragnar's brother (Clive Standen) for main character.
During an attack on a train, Bryan Mills' sister is killed.  It sets him on a path of revenge against a powerful drug lord (story doesn't say if he's Columbian or Mexican ).

At the end of the hour long pilot, he is of course recruited for this top super secret spy agency reporting only to the National Security advisor and the President.  No Russians were armed during the making of this show.


My take: not inventive by one bit, takes mostly after the movie (of course, duh!), but still seems to be a bit of fun.  Will watch next week to see how it evolves.

Didn't recognize him with short hair. Thought he looked like a young Jim Carrey.

Watched Predestination, an Aussie adaptation of Heinlein's "All you zombies". Decent enough, although the terrorist plot they added to pad up the original story feels tacked on. Recommended viewing for those liking time travel mind-fucks, although I guess that even if you haven't read the original short story the twists can be seen a mile away if you're familiar with the genre.

Have you watched any of it yet?  I would have to invest not only time but also some money to see it, so an opinion would be appreciated.  If anything, though, I think the earlier segments (pre-trial) have the most potential to be interesting/novel, so that might weigh in favor of starting it.
