Ok I am in for ten dollars. I look forward to our imminent victory.

I look forward to you following simple instructions! :P

I've heard that the 30 year option is a bad idea regardless, that if you take the lump sum and invest it, you can pay yourself the yearly amount you would get from the 30 year option forever.

Not sure if that is really true or not.

We'll have an actuary to advise us on this, in case it becomes relevant.

Oh, right, your wife.

There was adequate information contained to figure it out, but you did not actually include your languish name. :)

Am I too late to join this? I'm a firm believer of the "lottery is a tax on the math-impaired" train of thought, but it would totally suck if I passed on this and you all became insultingly rich

I used to think it was a tax on either "the math impaired" or "stupidity". Now, however, I've shifted to "it's a tax on daydreaming," which I feel a whole lot better about :)

Don't think it's too late to join - I just joined 10 minutes ago. 8 EST is still 6-7 hours away.

Josephus, I suspect you are my remaining unknown, since you are the only who stated that they were kicking in that I haven't matched to a payment. Can you send me a PM confirming the name it came in under?

I think I did in the subject rather than the message. Ah well.

Actually, a pension actuary is far more qualified to opine on such matter than a property/casualty actuary-turned-data-scientist.  But still, .

Interesting - you are right, it is in the subject.

However, the paypal site doesn't SHOW the subject when I click on the payment, I have to open the payment in their classic site to see the subject.

That is rather poor design for the largest online payment service in the world...

When I won with the group in work we created a Trust and chose to take the yearly payout for 20 years. The lottery winnings went into the Trust, a tax attorney did the taxes and paperwork, and a check plus the tax paperwork (to be filed with our yearly IRS taxes) were then distributed out to the Trust holders.

I'll call it a tax on my peace of my mind, it works for me.
