If I won by myself I would take the 30 year option. But as a group, I think a lump sum (even if lower amount) would be easier to handle.

I would imagine it would be good to post pics of the tickets.

Is the 30 year option even available when half your shares are held by people located outside the US? (I am 31, of course I choose the 30 year option.)

As I understand it even individually, a lump sum is better assuming you're able to secure (and adhere to) decent financial advice.

I've heard that the 30 year option is a bad idea regardless, that if you take the lump sum and invest it, you can pay yourself the yearly amount you would get from the 30 year option forever.

Not sure if that is really true or not.

Am I too late to join this? I'm a firm believer of the "lottery is a tax on the math-impaired" train of thought, but it would totally suck if I passed on this and you all became insultingly rich

lustindarkness

Well, I don't know. If we only had anyone with good financial sense/advice here. :(

We'll have an actuary to advise us on this, in case it becomes relevant.

It is not too late - I will be buying tickets around 8EST (~7 hours from now), and will post in the thread when I am closing entrants.

The 30-year option is an annuity.  Annuities are for insurance, not for efficient investment strategy.
