My greatest shame is that I can't grow a proper beard which I would much prefer to having to shave. Hair grows pretty much everywhere for me, but not in my face or on my head.

You're a man.  You should not feel any shame.  Your body (and your hair) is what it is - embrace it.

While women should feel shame about body issues?

When did I ever say that?

You said as a man one shouldn't feel any shame - and noted early about men not needing to feel shame for body issues.

I'm not sure why that is a gender-specific notion.

My earlier post:

Quote from: BarristerI have always thought though that one of the greatest things about being a man is not having the crippling body issues that women do.  I love it when I see a big fat guy with no shirt, a bald guy proudly rocking his chrome dome, a hairy guy being, well, hairy.  You're you, dude - feel proud.

Ideally, no one should feel shame over their body.  But in the real world, body issues have mostly been the unfortunate fate of women.

I would say I love it when I see a fat woman with her midsection exposed, or proudly rocking their own chrome dome - except I've never seen that.

But some men still refuse to accept society's narrow definition for what they're supposed to look like, and that should be embraced.

Though I am loving this back and forth where you are implicitly supporting men waxing and I'm not. :D

So there was no need to focus in on males then and you could have just told Syt: "You're a man You should not feel any shame.  Your body (and your hair) is what it is - embrace it" ?

Uh, no?

As a man, it's much easier for Syt to embrace his body hair than it would be for a woman.

And why are you judging me on this?  You're the one who said people should be ashamed of their bodies.

I'm confused on body hair. Sometimes I hear its good, sometimes I hear its bad, gah.

Meh, I will continue to go shirtless at the beach especially now that I know the hair on my chest has such a profound impact on people like Derspicegirl.

So you would disagree with someone making the following statement?

"You're a woman. You should not feel any shame.  Your body (and your hair) is what it is - embrace it"

I'm just not sure why the "should" (aka ideal world) has men not feeling shame but women still feeling shame over their bodies. Unless that "should" was in the vein that as a man there is no reason to feel shame about one's body, ever (aka no current strong societal pressures).

Well I was actually just being pissy on the body hair front. That said yes, I do think there should be some shame involved in situations (as I noted elsewhere) where at 9am you are eating a bag of McD's and washing it down with a big gulp which leads to you waddling when you walk. I hold that across genders.

Body hair is a sign of virility so men should embrace it while women should shave it.

It's a sign of higher testosterone levels, so while I concur, it's not necessarily a bad sign. :)

It is funny how more body hair and less hair (as in on the top of your head) are both signs of high testosterone levels. I am just going to call BS on both.

Polar DH.

My chest hair turned grey, my hair is greying rapidly and I have no hair left on the front part of my legs. I'm officially aging.

Just checked out info about the meds I've been given for an inflamation in a shoulder muscle. The good thing: Not banned by WADA (which is important, with me being an athlete and all). The bad thing: Leads to all sorts of bad stuff, like bloody stool, heart attacks, liver failure, kidney failure and allergic skin reactions. This'll be one exciting weekend.

I meant with women.  Obviously, it can go too far, but testosterone is associated with sex drive.

Anyway, your anti-science position has been noted.  You can take the Magyar out of Hungary, I guess... :P
