Book burning is an important procedure for any repressive state.

Norgy

Problem now is the environmental impact of burning oh so many Kindles and phones. Damned liberals and their environmental protection acts!

Quote from: crazy canuck on July 19, 2024, 03:17:46 PMWhat do you do? Perhaps thank the teacher for making so much reading material available their students?

It is so weird with all the fucked up shit online that conservative groups are trying to create moral panic over books. Did they finally move on from perversities that can be found on clay tablets? Dirty telegrams?

Wait until they discover that pornographic books used to be in Latin, more often that not.  :P

I remember my Latin teacher slipped his translation of Ars Armoria into the school library when I was in High School.  He told every class that, but I don't think the administration cared or understood what that meant.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Shouting down right wing speakers on college campuses is the left wing version of book burning.

On the one hand you've groups of paranoid nutters demanding the destruction of thousands of books for the most innocent of things like boys with dolls, or just straight up basic sex education, because gaysexual indoctrination.

On the other you've a handful of examples where stupid societies, often right wing ones purposefully trying to troll, invite cunts to give one off speeches along the lines of "why we shouldnt allow Muslims to exist in the 21st century" and receive a reaction of "... No".

Too many Palestinian protests taking up campus spaces.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

Bodysuits have been making fashion inroads on the streets of Iowa City.  I heartily approve.

In more asian shame culture news, a Japanese gymnast was sent home by the Japanese Gymnastics Association for smoking.

Don't know anything about her, but apparently she was good.

QuoteEarlier this year, Miyata dominated Japan's most prestigious domestic competitions, winning the All-Japan Championships and the NHK Trophy, where she secured her Paris Olympic berth.

She's 19.

I've found the premise to the sequel to "Cocaine Bear":

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Aw yeah, hell yeah:

American rapper Snoop Dogg to carry Olympic torch

But is trusting Snoop with such a large lighter a good idea?  :smoke:
