Quote from: Razgovory on January 25, 2026, 07:28:23 PMAn Canada occupied by the US with Quebec independent would certainly put in the hands in of people like Grey Fox or Viper or Zoupa.  Those people might find that holding the whip suits them quite well.  Who would they then use it on?

I think you are comically misinformed about Quebec, and insultingly mistaken about the nature of Grey Fox, Viper, and Zoupa.

Zoupa

In this scenario of an independant Qc and the rest of Canada annexed by the US, why exactly would I, GF or viper turn fascist?

Nationalists are Nationalists.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Quote from: Razgovory on January 25, 2026, 04:24:46 PMYou have these weird fantasies of oppression.  Fantasies of being sent to camps, of being the righteous resistance.  When fascism comes it won't the majority being oppressed.  The whip will be in your hand.

Grey Fox is not part of the majority in Canada, much less in the US.

Americans may think that the Quebecois will just blend in as "generic anglophone white" over time and join the fascist oppressors. Canadian history suggests that may not be the case.
He is in the majority for people in Quebec.  Quebec has already had one fascist government, and Francophones were not thrown in camps then.  As noted above, and why I brought this up again, Scots often talk about their status as a colonized people, something that obscures the major role of Scottish people in the British empire.  As Oex pointed out Francophone Canadians have not come to terms with their role in imperialism in Canada.  I think the same dynamic is play.  The claims of victimhood to create the appearance of righteousness and obscure participation in oppression of others.

An Canada occupied by the US with Quebec independent would certainly put in the hands in of people like Grey Fox or Viper or Zoupa.  Those people might find that holding the whip suits them quite well.  Who would they then use it on?

Yeah, who?

Who did you guys use it on last time?

No. There has been no time in history where the people of Québec have been entirely in charge of their destiny.
Getting ready to make IEDs against American Occupation Forces.

"But I didn't vote for him"; they cried.

Irrelevant.  The people of Quebec had no problem oppressing others through their elected representatives.  The problem is, I've heard all this sort of rhetoric from the American Right for decades.  They also had claimed to be persecuted and that they would be thrown into camps.

You're the one from the country with government thugs executing people in the street.

It's a bit rich to castigate other people for what you imagine they'd do one day, when your people is actually doing it right now.

Quote from: Valmy on January 25, 2026, 07:21:54 PMMaybe Raz has forgotten about how kids in Louisiana were beaten for using French in school for decades until we beat the French out of them.

Not all of them got the word about being dead.  :P
Surrounded by imperial camps,  one small village of indomitable still holds out against the invaders.

Seriously, this guy has started some GoFundMe, and used his money, from his business (typical of Louisiana, seems lie he's hunting gators :P and fishing for shrimps), on top of singing trad music to fund French education locally.  He hired a few French teachers to help revive French language around his area, teaching kids their ancestral language.  There are other initiatives like that in the more Cajun areas of Louisiana.

I find it admirable to see a window into our future like that.

Raz thinks he's exempt from repression because he stays home.  He forgot about ICE memo where they can enter homes and any other refuges at will:

Wherever you are, whomever you are, they will come for you and they will kill you.

Renee Good's parents were Republicans who voted Trump.  What do you think they'll do to someone no registered as Republican once they finally get their hands on voting record to see voters affiliation?  No one is safe.

Your government wouldn't even let me enter your country because I have criticized your President.

In the past, I could cross the border on foot, buy a pack of gum, walk back to our side of the border.  Now, our people get arrested for walking, driving or sailing near the border.

I'm more likely to end up in a camp awaiting extermination or death by winter.  This was the fate of many Ukrainian partisans seeking independence of USSR when the Nazis invaded.  Some were freed to fight the USSR once the Germans began retreating.

Quote from: Oexmelin on January 25, 2026, 07:02:27 PMQuébec, like Canada, has its fascists. I'm sure some of them would be willing to collaborate with Americans.
Obviously.  There are collaborators everywhere, in every country.  Even non fascists would join the invaders to save their skin or to gain from the situation.

Then perhaps you should heed what I say  since I know what fascists look like, and what they talk about.
