but you can get shingles

I thought no but while much less likely, that seems a possibility, if remote.  :hmm:
Well, I guess the 50th birthday will be a celebration of medical exams, check-ups and vaccines.

No, if anything it is more likely you will get shingles.

Quote from: Grey Fox on May 17, 2025, 08:23:43 AMHVC, when we reach 50, we gotta get the shingles vaccine asap. That thing is dangerous for quality of life if not taking care of.

It basically kickstarted my 80 years old aunt demise.

This was not on my radar. Thanks for putting it there

NF riding flips to Conservative

Quebec riding where Election Canada made a few mistakes with their postal envelopes is now officially challenged in court by the Bloc Québécois.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

12 votes! Remarkably close and now uncontestable.

Conservative party will now send out another fundraising letter, falsely claiming "They Did It!"

They already did.

I usually am not a fan of the monarchy, but the kings visit and throne speech was great.  Good reminder to people of the strength and history of Canadian institutions.

Carney is setting an ambitious bar for his government and I hope all levels of government work to rise to the moment now.  Much depends on getting the approval process streamlined and projects going.  That and getting the size of government under control.

Carney said one of the main reasons the budget is delayed to the fall is due to large ongoing discussions on partnerships with European rearmament.

Sheinbaum has been invited to the G7 presumably for side discussions on cusma.

A lot of news to look out for this year...

Wait the King of Canada himself delivered the Throne Speech? Huh. I was not aware that that is something that could happen.

Well good for Charles.

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

Yes indeed, it usually the Governor General who acts in the monarchy's stead.  Queen Elizabeth did it twice in her reign.

I also think it is a subtle FU to Trump who likes monarchy and parades and what not.  Hey look here we actually have a king and a throne we keep in storage with a the rcmp musical  ride.

The monarchy proving surprisingly useful again  :bowler:

It was covered quite extensively here in the UK and we were repeatedly reminded about how Canada is one of our best friends, standing shoulder-to-shoulder in WW1 and WW2 and not turning up halfway through the show like some others  ;)

I do belive this sort of stuff is very important, though it is hard to quantify.

Indigenous relationships with the crown are an interesting side show.  The royal proclamation of 1763 is the foundation of treaties and title recognition in Canada (before Canada existed).

Apparently got favourable coverage in Australia too. Which kind of surprised me given my understanding (lack thereof?) of their relationship with the crown.
