No, we also buy from them.  As I said in the other thread, it's a question of balancing out supply and demand.  Both countries give to the other to balance out the needs with available supply.

So for example, in the summer when BC goes through drought and our hydro generation is down, we tap into the American grid, and when our hydro power is in surplus and the Americans need a boost we send it South.

As Valmy said, I am not sure how this is going to work going forward.

Errrrr...I would have to know a lot more information to determine that. Lots of loads hop back and forth between interconnections on the margins, unplugging and plugging in on that scale is not a big deal. But entire provinces of Canada? You would probably have to do it gradually, slowly forming islands and then interconnecting them.

Québec is easy to disconnect. There's only a limited number of connections. Under 10 iirc.

GF, historically Quebec has been self-sufficient, but you face the same problem as BC, with a warming climate, we get less hydro output as drought conditions become more common.  Last year Quebec needed to import some energy from the Americans to balance out the needed supply into Quebec.

That is different. Those are High Voltage Direct Current ties. They can easily be turned off and on. Quebec has its own grid like Texas does. It is not synchronous with the Eastern Interconnect so there is nothing really to disconnect. You can regulate the power flow between both grids.

It is different with the rest of Canada outside of whatever is going on with Newfoundland over there.

Oh yeah, it's not a good idea for Quebec this time. I was just saying, we set up our network to be easily disconnectedable.

Yeah. Quebec and and 90% of Texas can declare energy independence at any time. Totally in character for both entities

Now, apparently, Trump is (maybe, who knows) ready to meet Canada and Mexico "in the middle" (whatever TF that means): https://www.newsweek.com/trump-official-says-president-ready-meet-mexico-canada-middle-2039626

Maybe he should start by not slandering Justin Trudeau as Governor Trudeau. Maybe not be an asshole for a minute.

Does Tennessee produce aluminium? If not, they may be sourcing it from Canada before processing it into aluminium powder.

YouTube comments are a cesspit, I know, and I shouldn't read them but the number of Canadians blaming Trudeau for the tariffs is maddening and disheartening.

If it makes you feel better, most of those are likely not people, but rather robots designed to make you feel bad.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

Fair. But some are still real people. And those people can vote.

There'll always be some. Don't judge their frequency based on the frequency of youtube comments.
