We really did play outdoors all day with the only rule being we had to be back home in time for supper. 

Well...I was playing D&D, Nintendo, and PC games by Sierra while my silent generation parents whined how kids today stay inside instead of playing outdoors all day like they did back in their day. Damn pre-Boomers.

My buddy had those actually. I didn't have one. They also had an atari at my preschool.

I didn't mind playing outside with friends but when none of them were around and I was sent outside to play I did not like that. All my best toys and books were inside, FFS!

I had a Commodore 128. It was fairly useless, that upgrade from the C64. But at least I could learn some programming.
"Hmm. So what to do... type a lot of stuff, or run 'Test Drive' from that schreeching tape deck?".

And the TV screens were made of rocks back then too. That we took from dinosaurs roaming the neighbourhood carrying rocks.
