The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

Quote from: Tamas on August 01, 2023, 03:08:52 AMAfter a long search I think I am settling on an Austrian brand of dark-roasted coffee beans.

Brand name, pls.

Der Franz.

Hybrid. For those who live relatively near to the office. Not really a total reversal there.

I don't think anyone would doubt that there are advantages to in-office working. The issue I have is the idea that this advantage is big enough to make up for the huge recruitment disadvantage it gives.

I suggest you read past the first couple of paragraphs.  The article explores that view from both the employer and resistant employee perspectives.

Anyone else here reached 'Peak writing tools' ?

I think I've enough pens and pencils* to last several more full lifespans, what to do with them?

* but man aren't pencils a great writing tool, no wonder some artists go overboard on them.

Pens and pencils are a bit like coat hangers in this respect; once a critical mass of these items is achieved they become a viable breeding population and you will never have to buy another one again

Index cards. There was as a time where I would buy packs of those out of fear of running out. I haven't bought a single one in years and I probably still have enough to last me through my retirement

Regarding pens and pencils, however, I always keep misplacing/losing them so I need a steady influx.

What you said is your opinion. And not particularly one shared by employers, as is made clear by the article and the trend of employers requiring employees to work, at least hybrid hours, and return to the office.

No?
Its said right there in the article. Hybrid for people living locally. Not a complete move back to in-office for all.

But finding a pen that will actually work when you need one is still a chore.

There is a commonality with the remote work debate.

Yes, it does say that for that one company and then the article goes on to speak more generally about the debate, that's the part I encouraged you to read.

This also speaks of hybrid working for Google and Amazon. And GAFAM are in a bit of a special place compared to others in that they have a huge recruitment pull in their own right.
If these guys are just pushing hybrid....
