Quote from: Syt on June 27, 2023, 11:42:23 AMRoseanne Barr was on a talk show(?) last week, saying "Nobody died in the holocaust, either. That's the truth. It should happen. 6 million Jews should die right now, 'cause they cause all the problems in the world."

Reminder:  Roseanne is Jewish.

That fucking thread is why I hate twitter. A bunch of people come in claiming it was a joke, somehow, and she is being maliciously taken out of context with...no room to further comment or really have a discussion.

Now I live in the US. I have heard Jewish acquaintances, friends, and celebrities make borderline self-loathing anti-Semitic jokes and borderline sacrilegious jokes all the damn time. It is indeed a kind of dry ironic kind of gag. I get it and I have also come to understand I, as a non-Jew, should never repeat them

However, nobody has ever gone anywhere close to holocaust denial jokes like that. That's really out there. So if you going to make that sort of claim please tell me more because nobody is denying she said that.

But because this is Twitter the sort of discussion that can be facilitated is always going to be "this shocking thing shows this person is evil!" followed by "Your shocking claim shows that you are evil!" and yeah that is extent of the discussion that can be facilitated on that shitty platform for the most part. You really have to work to make Twitter work for having a good and interesting exchange because Twitter will work against you.

Anyway I already think Roseanne sucks so whether or not she was joking here doesn't really move the needle for me anyway to be frank. It wasn't really a funny joke nor was a shocked and appalled...I hear people regularly saying the holocaust was a lie and that all Jews should be killed regularly on the internet. So I don't really get on what level that joke works.

I'm a sucker for these types of stories - but Australian Broadcasting Corporation piece on an Australian intelligence officer spying for the Soviets in the 70s and 80s, including five eyes secrets:

How far do you guys typically plan ahead and to what detail?

I ask as I've realised I've not gone to Oxford this year to do the museums.

It's loosely inked in for a day in september, that's after the schools have gone back, but why don't I just buy a train ticket now for a specific date and save myself some money??

Then again maybe I'm not that organised a personality, and it fit more with my style to decide in the week before and just buy a ticket on the day?  :bowler:

Reddit has changed its API pricing and most of the third party apps will have to shutdown as a consequence. That means I will no longer use it. Maybe a blessing.

I wonder who is going to pay.

For plane and long-distance train tickets, 3-6 months usually, sometimes longer.
I also do it to make sure I actually go and not put it off again and again.

Yes maybe I should do that too as it's only 2 months time?

Fly in the ointment is my sister is having a major op sometime inthe next "few months" so I need to be around for that.
