Squat. They give you a little cup and tell you to go home, and bring back the sample between 8 and 4:30. And it has to be 30 minutes fresh.
While I selfishly hope that my kid will be similar to me, having them be exactly like be would be somewhat... disappointing.

Ah, actually, same advice we all gave to Malthus re:sleeping:
take turns.
One of you sleeps in the same room as the baby during weekdays (the one not working, ideally ;) ), the other one takes care of the kid during week-ends while the other parent sleeps.
Breast feeding is good for the baby, good for the father, bad for the mother. And it restricts your freedom of movement by a lot.

How about Basil for a boy and Irene for a girl? They're historical, Byzanteen and not too weird.

But not in the context of Brian Mulroney. Much as Sarah is a fine name, but not in the context of Sarah Palin.
Taras Bulba if it's a boy.

...but wasn't he a Conservative? :boff:
Albert.
Be bold and choose an elven name! Elros for a boy or Nerwen for a girl - so long as it matches with your last name.
G.
If they only use his last name, anything fits. It's an awesome last name.
Blank?
I will say this, Ethan is a lovely literary name. Think Ethan Frome, a wonderful novel, though a bit tragic for poor Ethan. Other "trendy" names with a historical kick: Benjamin, Samuel, Owen (not really historical unless you're after a defeated Welsh cheiftain, but I like it :) ), Charles, Nathaniel.
I really like Margaret because there are so many variations you can use: Meg (my fave), Peg, Maggie, etc. Another girl's name like that is Elizabeth: Eliza, Liz, Beth, Betsy, etc. Popular girl names with history: Olivia, Charlotte, Katherine, Grace.

How about Samantha?
I love that name - it is pretty and feminine, but has a tomboyish nickname (Sam).
Melanie would be a Samantha, but apparently Julie knew someone in high school who made the name unacceptable.

I don't mind Samantha.
I do wonder though how close in terms of ties and contacts does a name have to be before it's unacceptable. For example, I would never use the same name as my neice and nephews (despite the name my neice has, phonetically, the same name as me), and I wouldn't use the same name as any of my cousin's kids, or that was the name of an old girlfriend (or boyfriend of my wife).
But beyond that? What if a friend or co-worker has used the same name? A more distant cousin?

As you can imagine I had no idea what to expect when they dragged this guy away from work.
But it turned out he had just moved (and didn't have a phone), not that he was avoiding service of his subpoena. So despite the fact he had received no advance notice about testifying whatsoever, he was just fine with going ahead right then.
