I will say this, Ethan is a lovely literary name. Think Ethan Frome, a wonderful novel, though a bit tragic for poor Ethan. Other "trendy" names with a historical kick: Benjamin, Samuel, Owen (not really historical unless you're after a defeated Welsh cheiftain, but I like it ), Charles, Nathaniel.

I really like Margaret because there are so many variations you can use: Meg (my fave), Peg, Maggie, etc. Another girl's name like that is Elizabeth: Eliza, Liz, Beth, Betsy, etc. Popular girl names with history: Olivia, Charlotte, Katherine, Grace.
