MAH PICKS
The Broncos at 7.5 points against the Super Bowl champions (the MGM Grand line has it at 8.5) is as overrated as it is insulting; funny, I don't recall the score in the AFC playoffs being that close. And despite all the hype over the Broncos' offense, they still can't stop the run and have no pass rush that's not playing for the Ravens this year. Yet another league-inspired conspiracy. Typical. Ravens cover.
Tampa Bay should smoke the Jets, who will wind up being one of the worse teams this season. Bucs cover.
NOBODY CIRCLES THE WAGONS LIKE THE BUFFA meh, who are we kidding. Patriots at 9.5 favorites is a gift. Belichick runs up the score, mumbling something about working out kinks from the preseason. Pats cover.
And my bonus pick: KC is 3.5 point favorites at the Jags, and quite frankly I think people are going to be surprised with the Chiefs offense this season. KC covers.
MAH AFC North picks:
Ravens over the Broncos
Titans beat the Steelers.
Fins over the Browns
Bungles over DA BEARS
Best game of the bunch: BUNGLES V. DA BEARS
I believe in Trestman, Go Bears!

Take it back! :contract:
The Ravens should win. For all the talk about how the Ravens have lost so many important pieces, the Broncos D is in real trouble, what with Miller suspended, Champ Bailey out due to injury, and Elvis Dumervil being a Raven. The whole Broncos scheme relied on Bailey shutting down #1 targets while the pass rush did their work, and the collapse of that system is what really got the Broncos beat in the playoffs last year. I expect a hard-fought win for the Ravens.
I'm going to the Chicago game. It'll be a shitty drive back home Sunday night if the Bungles lose. I've never seen a game in Soldier Field, though, so I'll at least be able to mark it off my bucket list.

Depends on the venue. In places like Jacksonville, they're very easy to come by. Places like Chicago or Green Bay or New England, not so much. Of course, they're always "available" on the secondary market if you're willing to pay lots of money.

Hell, looking at stubhub right now, you can get in to the 9/16 Monday night Steelers @ Bengals game for as low as $65. Should go up to at least $100 next week.
But of course if you're a Steelers fan, you'd want to get the Heinz Field experience (freezing your ass off in mid-December).

These days, just pulling pictures off the printer and stuffing them in binders for the runners to take to coaches. Pretty easy work, though ironically I miss out on seeing some of the game.
We have our computer hooked into feeds from the side line and end zone cameras (both high up) and take pictures of the offensive & defensive formations before the snap and shortly after the snap. With our old setup, we could only really print a couple sets of pictures per play, but with our new equipment, we can print pictures for every coach, offense and defense. I'm usually on the field, but we have an identical setup for the coach's booth (which is a nice place to watch the game from, and it's usually climate-controlled).
In the past, I've filled in on an emergency basis as the guy who controls the printer. Which was a pain in the ass job with the old equipment.

Yep, press box is the place to be for a game. Nice & comfy, lots of free food (hell, at Giants Stadium they even have free beer), and there's always an empty desk you can park yourself at and pretend you're that guy who for whatever reason didn't show up.

QuoteSEATTLE SEAHAWKS - TAP WATER
So while it would be easy for me to load up Seattle Magazine, search some beer lists, and decree that Haystack Hefeweizen by Snoqualmie Falls Brewing is the quintessential Seahawks bar, the very act of selecting that beer will make it uncool and, by extension, un-Seattle. Seattle Magazine? Sheesh, why doesn't grandpa just look in the Saturday Evening Post? The current Seahawks are so cutting edge that they transcend the notion of cutting edge, so the only way to stay ahead of their curve is to drink water, which is just beer with unfulfilled potential. Plus, you want to stay sober when watching the Seahawks, because you never know what they will do next.

I'm actually talking about the team video cameras, which are in end zone and sideline (way up high) for every game. The network has a feed from those cameras, and will occasionally use it for replays, particularly wide-angle stuff.

But seriously I missed most of game, what the hell happened from tie before half to when I got home and they were down 35-17 or whatever.
A touchdown drive that should never have happened (an incompletion that was ruled a completion, but Baltimore didn't challenge), followed by a blocked punt that turned into another touchdown drive, followed by another touchdown drive on a gassed D. Also, Baltimore stopped being able to move the ball on offence, in large part due to tons of drops by receivers and some ineffective runs on first down. Michael Oher got hurt, which really hurt the run game, and an injury to Jacoby Jones has them with only three receivers.
Just one disasterous quarter.

From the highlights I saw Manning and former Patriot receiver Wes Welker matched up well. The Pats are going to really miss Welker who left for the Broncos this year. Welker was a top receiver, defenses practically couldn't stop the guy. He had huge success and many clutch plays playing for New England. It's going to be interesting watching a Pats-Broncos match-up with Welker on the opposing side with a QB like Manning, surely kicking some butt is what I expect.
Ina stunning development Jim Harbaugh is whining like a bitch again:
Quote49ers coach Jim Harbaugh didn't get his way. But Friday, he got the final word on the interpretation of what is a legal hit on a quarterback in the read-option offense, saying a league ruling was "flawed and a bit biased."
The subject has become a hot issue for Sunday's much-anticipated playoff rematch between the Green Bay Packers and host San Francisco.
In the NFL's weekly rules video that was sent to reporters on Thursday, NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino showed several read-option plays and spelled out when a quarterback who is in the act of running the read-option can be hit.
"The quarterback can be hit like a runner until he's clearly out of the play," Blandino said in the video.
On Friday, the oft-emotionally charged Harbaugh didn't hold back when he spoke to the media, noting that the league's competition committee said it didn't have the "the appetite to look at it any further. So that's where we're at."
"I believe that when a quarterback is handing a ball off or faking a ball -- in the read-option case, he's reading on an option play and he's as defenseless as a quarterback who's in the act of throwing," Harbaugh said.
49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick had a record 181 yards rushing in the team's playoff win against Green Bay in January. This week, Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews said the Packers will try to hit Kaepernick to slow him down.
"One of the things that the referees have told us is that when these quarterbacks carry out the fakes, they lose their right as a quarterback, a pocket-passing quarterback, the protection of a quarterback," Matthews said Wednesday on ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike." "So with that, you do have to take your shots on the quarterback, and obviously they're too important to their offense. If that means they pull them out of that type of offense and make them run a traditional, drop-back, pocket-style offense, I think that's exactly what we're going for. So you want to put hits as early and often on the quarterback and make them uncomfortable."

Yeah, watched the 1st quarter today and he looked pretty sharp.
Fuck Jim Harbaugh. If a guy has the ball or is representing having the ball, he's a legit target. Tackle the whole fucking backfield.
I watched the rest of the game, and it was certainly an impressive display by Denver. Hard to really judge though given the advantage the altitude gives them.
Lol, apparantly the Columbus Dispatch ran a head line that said that Elway tied the record with 7 TD passes against the Ravens.
Okay Ray Lewis, take off those glasses.
Ugh, Phil Simms. What deity did I piss off to deserve this? :(
And the bungles start off well. :glare:
Andy Dalton, you should feel bad. Ass.
Great one man conversation you're having there.
Speaking of great, AP's 78 yd TD on the first play for Minnesota. :worthy:
Three safeties so far? How odd.

I hope Burfict's knee surgery goes well.
Alright, I guess it looked worse than it actually was. And the Bengals Bengalled it again. :(

No kidding. That's the one Ravens move this offseason that I just didn't get and can't get behind. Still, their loss is the Niners gain.
Interesting fact: There were only two guys in week 1 with more than 100 yards rushing: Shane 'Lights Out' Vereen, and the league rushing leader was the QB of the Oakland Raiders.
Terrell Pryor was rushing to sell his gold pants.

They couldn't afford him, he wouldn't restructure his contract, and they needed the cash to buy a middle linebacker and strong safety. Pretty simple salary cap mathematics, actually.
Who knew Eli Manning would play like Tony Romo so early?

They traded him over two million dollars, which would get you either a middle lineback or a strong safety, but not both. Was Michael Huff worth Anquan Boldin?

They had to trade him, or they would've been forced to release him outright for absolutely nothing to show for it. Would you rather have seen Brynden Trawick as the starting safety Thursday night?
Fuck, you'd think Bouldin was the first player in the history of salary cap moves to continue playing at a high level. But when he makes 4 catches for 37 yards next week along with his penchant of 1st half dropsies, are you going to keep bitiching then?

I just think it was a mistake. And honestly, for all the good Huff did, they might as well have started Trawick. Then again, that might not be fair, given that it was Manning and all that. Yeah, I'm probably not going to be alright with Boldin, even if he has a down week. Because even his worst game is better than Ed Dickson.
Then again, who knows? Maybe Brown and Mellette will make me forget that Boldin and Jones ever existed. It's just painful to watch the offence struggle with drops on Thursday after trading a guy with velcro hands, and then that guy goes off on Sunday.
And if anyone is talking about firing Ozzie, they need to shoot themselves in the head with one of the many handguns that are available in Baltimore. It's not like this is the first time that Ozzie has made a mistake with a wide receiver.
Travis Taylor. Patrick Johnson. :bleeding:
And we should totally expect Bouldin to go crazy in San Fransisco, he's a perfect fit for that offense. But at least they traded him to the NFC. Cutting him outright, he could've been in a Patriots uniform this season. :bleeding: And then how happy would everybody be?

Ugh. Travis Taylor was exactly who I was thinking of. And really, no receiver that they drafted between Brandon Stokley and Torrey Smith really worked out. Remember Clarence Moore? Yamon Figurs? Devard Darling? Mark Clayton almost worked out.
Yeah, if they had to dump him then obviously it's better to get something rather than nothing, but it would be better to just keep him and let the Patriots try their luck next year.

Life in the salary cap age. Gotta rob Peter to pay Paul. Had to chisel away a point of strength in the offense to upgrade the defense.
And if they didn't have that extra scratch, they wouldn't have been able to score the fluke coup that is Elvis.

Now that might actually be legit. I guess it's up to the individual to decide how the extent to which they value offence vs defence.
They looked bad in the second half, but I'm sure they'll gel a bit as the season goes on. The Cleveland Browns heal all wounds.

There was a lot of goofy shit this week. I don't know if it's the soft CBA or what, but teams just don't seem ready in week 1 anymore.
The Steelers game was painful to watch. :(
All 4 AFC North teams lost this week. The Bengals were close, and the Ravens just had one titanically bad quarter, but the Steelers were just terrible for 60 minutes and the Browns were the same old Browns.
Not quite sure what to make of that performance by the Pats. The running games remains strong, but Brady's options are sparse. Brady's chemistry with Amendola was good, but his ability to stay healthy is certainly questionable. Aside from that he only has Edelman and the hope of Gronk coming back and staying healthy.

Yeah, for a while there were two games where one team had just 2 points.
If they were to shorten pre-season as has been discussed, it would take that much longer for teams to get into their groove.
Anyway, as disappointing as the loss was, and as much as I hated having to drive through Indiana so much the past two days, it was a pretty cool experience. The current version of Soldier Field looks from the outside like a big UFO landed on the old Soldier Field. I've never really been a Bears fan, but I respect their tradition and I wish the Bengals could draw a crowd that loud and loyal. Pretty solid stadium experience.

Yeah, the running game is good but passing game is a bit weak right now. The Pats receiver corp is supposedly very good, maybe among one of the better groups they've had for a while. As they and Brady play together more then there's good hope. At least I hope so because we've seen before good receivers come to the team but aren't able to produce.

Is it just me, or is this game really dragging?
I like those huge Fedex Field screens. Per the Bengals contract with Hamilton County, the county must pay for new HD scoreboards once 14 NFL teams have them. Now that that point has been reached, the Bengals can demand the new screens for next season. Probably a good idea to get off to get to a winning record first, though.
Man this is an OLD SCHOOL Eagles-Redskins game! And by that I mean it resembles one played between 2000 and 2009 :(
Who cares, it's hilarious. With each yard the Eagles make, I can sense The Danny trying to decide which fans to sue.

The team charter flights are actually quite nice. They throw more food at you than you can possibly eat. They hand you Chick Fil-A sandwiches as you board, then as soon as you're at crusing altitude they break out the steaks. Then ice cream. Then a snack. Then the candy cart.

I always wondered how the hell he became a head coach. I will never forget the game that sealed his fate. He started 7-2 and then proceeded to lose his next 6. He had a chance to salvage at least an 8-8 record his last game in Cincinnati, and was well on the way when he was up by three scores. Jeff Blake came back with an epic performance (including a rushing first down on 4th & 17). Bungles pick up their precious third win of the season, and help get Kotite fired.
And you're right-- he didn't look like he belonged in the NFL. He was George Costanza.

I was at that game, freezing my ass off. Starting that year (my first at Delaware) I didn't get to Cincy for many games, and that was the only game in Cincy I made it to. Play to the whistle, Chargers D

I can't believe there wasn't a whistle there. It was obvious that Johnson had been touched, and that he went down as a result of tripping over whatshisnae's shoulderpads.
I don't know what's more surprising: the success of the Bolts' offense, or the complete ineffectiveness of the Texans' D.
Texans D
Well, well, well...look who decided to wake up.
Just finished watching the first half of the Eagles-Redskins game and I have to say I'm very impressed with the Eagles offense.
NFL announcers for Houston-San Diego is Dilfer and Chris Berman :bleeding:
