FWIW, the Minister who introduced the HST in Ontario lost his seat 

Anyways, in the final analyis, Ontario will probably go to the polls again before the four years are up, and Hudak, the conservative, looks pretty good to win the next one. He only needs a 3-4 percent shift his way, and odds are with the economy likely to stall, he may get it.

For B-C, I believe it was badly implemented and they ended up paying more for their products.  Asking the Feds to raise the "rich people" tax levels was ok, but paying themselves more taxes, I suppose they tought they weren't rich enough for that

my 2 cents re: insite decision... It's interesting that a lot of the language of the decision is stuff I was laughed at here on Languish over earlier this year. "More good than harm" is actually an important concept. Who'd a thunk it. :p

Maybe you missed your calling.  You could have been slimy, lawyering scum and acted against the interests of society and the Canadian people.

but then I likely would have been against the decision, so that doesn't work for me. I have my own drummer, as I keep reminding you. I exist outside your simple binary system of thinking. 

I recently watched Ken Burns' new "Prohibition" doc. very current in it's appeal, as the whole thing mirrors modern ideas of punishment only as the right's idea of a war on drugs, much like the war on booze back in that time.

Prohibition was wrong for booze, it's also wrong for other drugs..... of course unless it's big pharma, then it's okay to be a druggie. If you could get smack from Pfizer this wouldn't even be a discussion anywhere.

can you tell me what kind of drugs big pharma sells, freely available for anyone, that is equivalent to heroin, speed, meta-amphetamines and magical mushrooms?
I'd like to know, I'm sure I could find a way to turn this in a profit, buying legit, selling illegal

Seriously, prescription drug abuse is on a similar order to illegal drug abuse in significance.

The silliness lies in assuming that "big pharma" is enouraging such abuse.
