Open Range was a good movie.

Yes it was, and an honest attempt at the period's manner of speaking.

Thing about Deadwood criticism: just because they wrote in a particular fashion didn't mean they spoke in that manner.   The word "fuck" was in common usage back then.

I forgot a review of 47Ronin

Prometheus is on.  And it's still atrocious.

It was OK/passable, thought there was clearly a better film in the edit somewhere.

The remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still is on.  Not the worst remake, because at least Jennifer Connelly is in it, and she has those dreamy, blue-enough-to-just-maybe-be-psychotic eyes.

But the character Klaatu, for whatever reason, reminded me of this Twilight Zone short from the 1980's, A Small Talent for War.  With a John Glover appearance!

It's only 8 minutes long, so even you Millennials should be able handle that.   :P

Wait 8 minutes?

Now I'm gonna have to rewatch the original.  :)

Trying to watch 'The Adventurers - search for the midas box' with Martin Sheen.

Didn't realise it was a children's film.

The 25,000th post in this thread, nearly exactly 10 times the number in the book thread.  :hmm:

Best part was the self-surgery.  The rest of it was shit.

Takes far more time to read a book than to watch a movie, to be frank. Unless you're into picture books.

How do you know?  Did grumbler tell you?

Deadwood is probably the best writing on the American West, ever.

I think I should try watching this, since both you and Shelf like it, haven't heard Ide say he likes it, so that's added confirmation.  :)

It's very good for the first the first couple seasons, though I personally thought it started to lose its way towards the end and got booged down in political stuff. But Swearangen (based on a real character btw) is one of the best HBO characters ever.

Steven Soderbergh has edited down 2001 A Space odyssey to 110 minutes or so. I'd like to see what he cut, but can't be arsed to watch it again (I watched the full Kubrick version just two weeks ago--for the umpteenth time)

QuotePreviously, he mashed up the two versions of Alfred Hitchcock and Gus Van Sant's Psycho to reveal the subtle changes made between the films and how those affect viewing.

One of my film teachers (who is not Soderbergh) did that, too. Amazing exercise to learn filmmaking.
