Watched the last part of the real Carrie again.  God that movie is so, so, so good.

Sissy Spacek is so much hotter than she's given credit for too.  Kind of a weird nose that looks great in profile but a little Lon Chaneyesque dead on, but nothing really wrong about it; but she had gorgeous eyes and at 27 (Jesus, and I complain about Hollywood "teenagers" today) basically possessed of the perfect female body.

A+ for Carrie and also Sissy Spacek's prime years.

Also review of Carrie (2013): Maybe remake the French Connection so Popeye isn't a huge racist instead

QuoteThey're not even going to laugh at it, because Carrie doesn't have the decency to at least be an incompetent as well as unnecessary remake: merely bland in most respects, inferior in every single respect, and willing neither to innovate nor to truly plagiarize.

I see you missed my French Connection review. :P  But for this I just chose the 70s classic I could think of that would require the most egregious change in any remake; however, as I've said before I'd rather see a remake of literally any 70s movie (except, perhaps, Apocalypse Now) than Carrie.

I've just watched a few recent episodes of the Simpsons, it has been a while since I last watched it.
One thing that I find interesting is that Smithers is now so very openly gay. I wander how much of this is standard character development from his start as merely Burnsexual through to the nods in that direction and now being just a gay guy and how much of it is societal development in the last 20-odd years.

Is he "openly" gay?  I agree the show once just teased it, and now makes it patently obvious, but it seems like Smithers is still in the closet.  Sure he goes to gay clubs, vacations at men-only resorts - but he's never admitted to anyone that he is gay.
In the episode I watched he teams up with Moe to open a gay bar and calls Moe out for pretending to be gay when he isn't. Oh, he then kisses Moe.
I don't think he does explicitly say at any point "I'm gay" but he seems pretty firmly out.

Isn't kids fare still violent? Avatar the Last Airbender had genocide, a hundred year steampunk world war, secret police, torture, etc.

Only if your definition of "kids" = adolescent fucktards, since those films are PG-13 and PG, respectively.
 Avatar the Last Airbender was a cartoon show on Nickelodeon.

I figured it was just your fucked up typing that missed a comma between movies.
And what the fuck are you doing watching Nickelodeon anyway?  Sharing circlejerks with Siegy?

You're a complete and total sicko.  Margot Kidder, Sissy Spacek...I bet you whack off to Shelley Duvall as well.

At least now we know from now on when you refer to a "hottie" you hook up with in a bar, we know you're probably talking about the Ermahgerd meme chick.

Indeed. Saw the Conversation the othery day and it was nice to see a more human(e) Gene Hackman.
This movie was also influenced De Palma's Blow Out.
It's a '70s movie for sure and there are gratuitous explosions and the pacing is different.
MY only problem was the rough shape of the print, looking more like a 16 mm, complete with Eastmancolor red degradation.

actually.. Avatar:TLA is the only animated show that remotely comes close to Batman:TAS in quality. The show has an 8.9 rating (with 70 thousand raters) on IMDB and has a large adult fanbase (me included). Thats the same rating The Dark Knight, Pulp Fiction, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, 12 Angry Men and Schindlers list got. Only Shawshank and Godfathers I and II got better ratings. While it looks anime and uses anime tropes the story telling, plot, pacing etc. is very western.

If you watch this you will not stop hating anime, you will merely conclude that Avatar is NOT anime. Seriously, Avatar is very very very good.

First Maxim - "There are only two amounts, too few and enough."
First Corollary - "You cannot have too many soldiers, only too few supplies."
Second Maxim - "Be willing to exchange a bad idea for a good one."
Second Corollary - "You can only be wrong or agree with me."

Difference there is that only people predisposed to like it are watching and rating Avatar, while the films you mentioned are pushed upon the general public by friends, family, co-workers: "What, you've never seen The Godfather?" Not saying it's a bad cartoon(as I've never seen it), but the ones I have seen tend to be overrated.
