Molly's Game.  Brandi Chastain gives some good fan service as the runner of semi-legal high stakes poker games.  Micheal Cerra is the movie star card shark who draws in players in her first game.  He's bloating a bit and has lost his adorable chipmunk voice.  He's going to be opening malls in a couple years.  Idris Elba mumbles manfully as Molly's lawyer.  Pretty enjoyable (didn't channel surf once) but it acquires a Hallmarkian tinge at the end when father Kevin Costner shows up.  The poker parts are well done.  I'm looking at you, Casino Royale.

Have been meaning to check out Molly's Game for a while, but seemed quite long for a film about a subject I care little about (gambling).

To sleep, perchance to dream. But in that sleep of death, what dreams may come?

First Man. Fairly decent biopic, in spite of making zero effort to make Gosling look like Armstrong.

Otherwise known as 'man goes all the way to the Moon to avoid being emotionally available to his family'.  :D

It's good, well worth it.

Bird Box. Riveting in spite of the nonsensical premise.

American Crime Story 2- very different to the OJ series. It also deals with a  much less well known event; its all new to me. Pretty good though. I guess it's upsetting a lot more people than the OJ one.

Like that one more than the OJ one. The episodes focusing on the killer's background story are amazing, much more than the ones focusing on Versace, I dare say.

Haven't followed Cinema Snob in a while, but he's just released a glowing review of Spielberg's 1941

Fiend without a Face (1958)

Somewhere in the wilds of Manitoba the United States Air Force is running experiments with atomic radar.  There experiments have been disappointing, as they never get the power they expect.  Meanwhile some of the locals have been found strangled; all the autopsies show that the victims are missing brains and spines.  In a shocking turn of events they all run for parliament and handily win their elections.  The locals blame radiation from the Air Force base for the deaths and form a vigilante group; but what if there is a more sinister explanation?

If you guessed that, yes, there is a more sinister explanation; then you're right!  (Duh!)  If you guessed that a wacky British scientist has been stealing atomic energy and using it to create invisible, disembodied brains that strangle people; then you're right again!  (Duh!)  The ending is a wonderfully gory "Night of the Living Dead" style siege.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock
