I am going to see Magic Mike XXL as part of my new tradition for 4th of July.  The cinema I am going to is going to have a male stripper pre-show to the movie. My lawd!

FWIW, this film is better than the first one.

Got back from it a few hours ago, and you're nuts.  (Not, however, that it's actually bad.  But not even as good a dance/stripping movie as the first.)
Kinemalogue
Current reviews: The 'Burbs (9/10); Gremlins 2: The New Batch (9/10); John Wick: Chapter 2 (9/10); A Cure For Wellness (4/10)

Getting rid of McConaughey was a big positive, as well as moving away from sticking to events in the dingy club. Well that and also losing the whole tragic life of the stripper plot line for "The Kid" in the first one.

Only major drag was Matt Bomer who seemed to be channeling some sort of weak McConaughey facsimile.

I liked Bomer, I thought his sincere "I saw it on Oprah" hippie-dippie baloney was distinct enough from McConaughey's profound pothead redneck persona, which only served as kind of an ironic counterpoint to the actual Dallas character anyhow.

I assume we can agree on the best scene, though, right?  The gas station?

But, of course.

Though I do have to give a mention to the woman in my audience who shouted out "Brush your hair!" when useless, sometimes stripper girl sat in the kitchen eating red velvet. :D

I saw it this Friday, too, and was somewhat unimpressed. It wasn't bad, but I guess I expected better.

I was just assuming it must be something where you caught him in a gay sex act.

Finished Banshee's 3 seasons.  Very goodshow.
Predictable: yes.
Borderline silly: yes.
Totally implausible: absolutely!
Fun to watch: 12/10.
I have to recommend this to all Languishites who haven't seen it yet :)
This guy would be CdM's hero any time, for sure, even if not a real cop.

Marco Polo
Lots of orgies.  They sure knew how to party in the Khan's court.  Still, there's just enough of something else than gratuitous sex scenes to get me hooked to the show.  Episode 6 tonight.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

Oh Brother Where Art Thou? (2000)

The title comes from the Preston Sturges' Movie "Sullivan's Travels" (1941); it's the title of movie about the suffering of humanity (with a little sex in it) Joel McCrea wants to create.  It is funny that it's a comedy in the vein of "Sullivan's Travels" rather than a message picture.  The film does have a couple scenes inspired by "Sullivan's Travels," most notably the prisoners at the movie theater.  It's also a wacky retelling of the Odyssey set in depression-era Mississippi.  It's entertaining, but maybe a little too wacky for its own good.  The music is excellent, though.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock
