Vote for us, we'll punish the young whippersnappers. 50 days service if they stand on your lawn.

QuoteTeenagers joining the army under Rishi Sunak's national service plan would only serve for 25 days, not a whole year as originally implied, Grant Shapps said this morning.
Two days after their manifesto launch I think. Truly in their free jazz age

Edit: Once things turn - Sunak aide being investigated for placing a bet on the date of the election the day before it was announced

Wait is Labour promising to build some renewable energy? The Green Party can be counted on to put a stop to that!

Quote from: Tamas on June 12, 2024, 12:15:06 PMThe article thst could have been written by Josq :p due to "anticipatory betrayal" by the Labour Party, we should vote Green:

I mean it's Monbiot (who I really like) but is a Green. I did quickly scan the Green manifesto pledges and saw very very little on energy transition or net zero, just re-heated Corbynism.

On Guardian columnist though I've seen Owen Jones out and about campaigning for independents, Greens etc against Labour and hassling Labour MPs. Always find it annoying on why, when challenged on why Labour MPs won't engage with him he frames it as "why won't they talk to journalism" and then when challenged on his obvious views goes for "well I'm an activist not a journalist".

You're never disappointed if you're always betrayed

Just seen footage of Sunak saying the economy turned a corner in Silverstone (before the stalled GDP data came out), that had to be the most forced and least convincing grin in the history of grins.

 At least there wasn't a literal car crash.

Although separately I am very dubious on the value of the ONS releasing GDP figures monthly with a rolling three month growth rate.

QuoteGrew up in a 2 Bedroom council house on a council estate.
Put my head down at Highschool and passed all GCSE's and A-Levels.
Got a well paid job.
45 years later, and I've finally made it: a 3 Bedroom council house on a council estate.
Keep chasing your dreams fellow Brits!

An inspirational story indeed!

In a rare sign of good planning, the Conservatives did not schedule the announcement to occur during the F1 weekend.

First display of basic competence in the campaign - and it has happened before
QuoteCar crash interrupts Labour campaign
Labour campaign's poster launch event was interrupted by a car crashing into a nearby bus shelter

Gordon Brown's attempt to revive his campaign faltered before it had begun today, when a the launch of a poster with many of his cabinet in attendance was interrupted by a car crashing into a nearby bus shelter.

Strategists said they hoped the appearance of senior Labour figures in Birmingham on the morning after the final televised debate would mark the beginning of a more vigorous campaign.

But no sooner were 10 cabinet ministers lined up in front of the election posters in Hockley, Birmingham, than the event was thrown into chaos by the sound of screeching cars and crunching metal.

To make matters worse, the accident was apparently triggered by refuse collectors in a lorry who decided to jeer "Labour" out of their window.

Edit: By the by caught a chunk of the town hall on Sky News tonight (when not cooking dinner). A far, far better format than the ITV debate and good hosting from Beth Rigby.

I don't really use Facebook these days.
I went on the other day though and man. What a cess pool.
Local group from my home town sees a lot of complaints about the labour candidate.... With the conclusion of many being to vote for those great guardians of the working class, reform. :bleeding:
Such idiocy is of course par the course for fb.
Though it was fun to see some with exactly the same moans coming to the conclusion of vote for the workers party candidate - someone actually from the town.
Horseshoe theory in action really.

You'll vote Green because of your complaints about Labour :P

Only because I know Labour will win anyway.
And the Greens for all the lunacy they've buried are a far more sensible group whose MP has been decent.

To be clear - Green plans:

And at the end of the next Parliament on their own numbers they'd still be running a deficit about as big as the current one  Terribly sensible politics.

Also, weirdly, they'd actually cut fuel duty. Basically they want to impose a carbon tax at the top end of what experts in that area talk about - but converted to petrol it's actually lower than current fuel duty. So an unexpected pitch for the Jeremy Clarkson vote.

More to the point I think the panic is starting. Mail headline tomorrow: "A TORY WIPEOUT RISKS ONE PARTY SOCIALIST STATE" :mmm:
