Have the Brits here decided among themselves in what order they'll be PM when their turn comes up?  :hmm:

That is indeed the final boss. Carrying Metternich style Austria all the way to 1936.

Sheilbh should be the political advisor. He doesn't like technocratic babble.

Fair but I think that goes both ways and is based on who is the larger/earlier group. For example this from The Daily Show - which to British ears feels a little bit/uncomfortable:

Brits use it as shorthand for the sub-continent but it also does and can include East and South-East Asia; Americans use it as shorthand for East and South-East Asia.

To my western Canadian ears it is very odd to hear someone from the Indian subcontinent referred to as "Asian". I thought that daily show bit was hilarious and fits very much with the way in which we would see it.

Tricky first, then PLJ and/or Angeltus, finally a very policy focused Sheilbh, that well meaning administration falls appart and we're occupied by Trumpist American mercenary companies.

After some time, I lead the insurgency that overthrows the occupation and goes onto lead us finally to those promised sunlit uplands.  Just weeks later, a large part of the West Antartic uplands collapses into the ocean and 60% of inhabited England ends up underwater. :bowler:

Yeah - I think it just reflects historic migration patterns. I get that it's pointing out the absurdity "Asian" as a category when it's a massive diverse continent.

But it's gone down really badly here, especially from Asian journalists/commentators etc - for example from this Bloomberg reporter:

I'd note some (South) Asians were also less than impressed/commented it was a little sinister given the guy making the joke is a Malaysian Chinese guy from Singapore. Which has a large South Asian population - largely as migrant workers and domestic servants.

I mean yeah... I'm more used to North American usage.

But "people in another part of the world have different usage in common speech, har har har" is pretty weak as humour goes, IMO.

Slightly weird online "press conference" (no questions from the press) by the Chinese Embassy on the "October 16 Incident" at the Manchester Consulate General.

Basically blaming Hong Kong "independence activists" and accusing them of breaking into the consulate, injuring staff etc and calling for politicians and social media to stop "hyping up" things. Also calls on the government to meet its obligations to protect diplomatic missions. Also providing shelter for these elements will only "bring disaster" to Britain - using Aesop's fable about the farmer and the snake as an example.

I can't think of any other example of something like this it's very, very odd :hmm:

Separately - mentioned before - but interesting visualisation of shifting attitudes on immigration (which still seem to be shifting):

While median opinion has moved from 2 in 2016, to 5 in 2022 and issue salience has collapsed, restrictionist attitudes are still more geographically spread (though it's close to 50/50). Which is why Labour have said that except for Rwanda they wouldn't really change policy on immigration.

At the same time I think our politicians were generally socialised in the politics of median opinion 2 on that scale and this shift has coincided with record highs of net migration. Given that, opinion and salience are still moving and that doesn't seem to be impacted by immigration levels, I don't think we're at the end of this shift, but I also think politics will lag behind public opinion but might look quite different on this issue in the 2030s :hmm:

Point is people from a different part of the world, India, don't refer to themselves as Asians either.  At least not the ones who immigrated here.
