They still aren't art.  There is no need to justify a hobby like computer games by claiming they are art.  They can be just, you know, games.

It can be, yes.  Though it is not necessarily.  Is Curling art?  Is Football?  Is Monopoly?  Is Poker?  No.  They are games.

Really, I'd say the decorations are art.  A sword is a weapon.  However, it can be richly decorated and become an artistic object.  This does not makes swords art.  Likewise computer games can have art in them, but they themselves are not art.  A game is mechanics, the part you play with.  Graphics and story and music are artistic.

When someone tells me that they are "Research Assistant" at a university, what does that mean? Is it part of a graduate study program, full-time position, volunteer?
