Brian Williams of NBC News is catching shit for fibbing about being downed by enemy fire in Iraq.  Turns out his helicopter was 35 minutes behind a chopper that went down.

I saw that and think that he does deserve a rash of shit. It would be one thing if he "misspoke" once but it is something he has done on several occasions.

That was a pretty elaborate story if it's the one I'm thinking of.

Syt, why do you think the source you posted shows fatalities per 100,000 of population for automobiles but not for bikes?

The fuck do I know?

Do you have any guesses?

I have one guess:  you didn't read the fucking chart very well, Bundy.  Unless "Cyclist Fatalities" under Safety and Health is German for "Not Bicycles".

Fuck man, your mind is turning to mush. I asked why syt thought the chart didn't show the fatalities per 100,000 of population for cyclists like it did for autos.

Per the chart:
traffic fatalities / 100,000 people: US: 11.1; Germany 5.1
cyclist fatalities / 100,000 people: US: ???; Germany ???

Fill in the chart o great accuser of me being Ted Bundy, if you are so certain the data is there.

SiriusXM are a bunch of pests. I get a free trial with the new car and they care calling my home and bugging the shit out of me.

I've gone to DefCon 3.

I found out from the State of Ohio that they somehow owed me $32.  THANKS KASICH

Also I've been getting it free for several years now.  Apparently the old school Sirius unit in the garage was turned off so long it missed the deactivation signal.

Do they not do the "no call list" thing any more?

Stats of dead people are still stats of dead people, whether it's two wheels or four wheels.  How about pedestrians, then?  They WALKED as opposed to CYCLED.

Holy shit, somebody's trying to make a point with statistics.  Imagine that.

They are exempt from that if they have "done business" with you recently.

I don't think that matters, the key point is they skewered the numbers to make it look like traffic was more danger per km, than cycling or even walking. They did this buy using 1 billion km for cars and per 100,000 km for the other two. As it is driving is say 6-8 times 'safer' than the other two.

I don't think you're getting AR's point.  He's implying that certain types of statistics are omitted because they run counter to the general theme, which is that Germany is safer than US in every way.  He's implying that statistics are abused while making that point.

Quote from: James Altucher

I recently visited an investor who manages more than a trillion dollars.
You might think a trillion dollars sounds impossible. I
did. But there's a
lot more money out there than people let on. It's squirreled away by
families who have been hoarding and investing and reinvesting for
hundreds of years. And this trillion dollars I speak
of belonged to just one family.
We were high up in the vertical City of New York. His entire office was
surrounded by glass windows. He brought me over to one of them.
"What do you see?" he said.
I don't know, I thought. Buildings.
"Empty floors!" he said.
"Look at that one. Some bank. All empty." He
pointed at another building. His fingers scraping across his window
like...I don't know...whatever a spider uses to weave its web. "And that
one: an ad agency or a law firm or an accounting firm. Look at all the
empty desks. They used to be full, with full-time employees. Now
they're empty and they will never fill up again."
I spoke with several CEOs around that time and asked them point-blank,
"Did you fire people simply because this was a good excuse to get rid of
the people who were no longer useful?"
Universally, the response was a nervous laugh and a "Yeah, I guess
that's right!"
And because of the constant economic uncertainty, they told me, they
are never going to hire those people again. Recently I joined the board
of directors of a temporary staffing company with $700 million in
revenue. The year before they had $400
million. That growth occurred in a flat economy. I now can see firsthand and immediately what parts of
the economy are hiring full-time and what parts of the economy are
moving toward using more temporary workers.
I'll tell you the answer: ZERO sectors in the economy are moving
toward more full-time workers. Everything is either being cut back,
moved toward outsourcing out of the country, or hiring temp workers.
And this goes not just for low-paid industrial workers, but middle managers, computer programmers, accountants, lawyers, and even senior executives.

Not so much tell him, but talk with, I ain't one of those irate angry person types.  :D

Just giving some feedback, interested to hear what he says and getting the measure of the man, perhaps suggest a way the government, could save a very, very, very small amount of money.
