I read in the newspapers that some Mainland Chinese employers demand their employees sign undertakings that they will not fall in love, marry and/or have children in the next x years.  The rationale is that these...activities adversely affect their work performance.  But many people try to dodge this by hiding their boyfriends/wives/babies from their colleagues and bosses.

Monos post reminds me of something I was pondering the other night:
How does the one child law work for foreigners?
Would a American couple living in China have to obey it?
What if one of the couple was Chinese, not American- and is there a difference depnding on whether its the man or woman?

Dunno why I was wandering this but...there you go.

I don't know about foreigners, but Hong Kongers living on the mainland are not bound by the one child policy at all.  We can have any number of children we want.  So the law most likely doesn't apply to foreigners.  No idea about mixed marriages.

I think the new subforum is so VM can skip a couple weeks or a month and come back and easily find those threads. There was little popular demand for a tech subforum afaik.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

I saw the girl I had a crush on in highschool at the mall today.  That depressed me. :(
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011
