It seems reforms trigger massive revolts.  I end mandatory service and half a million militant socialists overthrow the government.  Like the next day.

That should not happen if you are picking the preferred reform.  On the contrary, picking the preferred reform should give you a nice drop in MIL.

It is not a reform preferred by socialists.  They militantly want an art endowment, but there aren't enough of them to make 50%.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Because art endowments are often a major driving force behind civil wars and the deaths of hundreds of thousands.  :P

OK but you did mouse over with the tool tip to make sure it wouldn't piss off others before picking the reform, right?

I did find that the USA had worse revolt problems than just about any other play through country, but mostly localized ones, with 20-30 brigades.  Not these massive continental 500 brigade plus mega uprisings.

Apparently I bought this a while back on Gamer's Gate.  Anyone know if Paradox offers a Steam key conversion or somesuch?  I recall they have done something similar before.

Gamer's Gate still seem to offer this product up to the latest patch (3.03.) I used a bunch of leftover blue coins to buy both expansions there a couple of weeks ago (they were both massively on sale - I had an 80% discount on one of them IIRC.)

Thanks to you and Raz for the tips, but it seems like I can't get one.  I show Steam keys for a bunch of other stuff I bought on GG, but not Victoria II, unfortunately.

Fortunately for me, all the stuff is on sale on Steam right now--Victoria collection for $9.99 which includes Victoria I, II and all the DLC +2 expansions.  Ker-ching!
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Okay, I had been putting this off for a while.  I started up and kept getting a really weird situation.  My ally France is at war Spain.  With judicious use of American resources the conflict goes our way.  I impose a surrender condition on Spain, and then a few months later I get a message saying that We lost the war and France is partitioned between Germany and Spain.  Germany was a Spanish ally, but they were not in the war so I don't get it.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. France just wanted to surrender to everyone.

My best guess is to reload and bring Germany into the war and defeat them as well.

This is what it looks like when I win the Spanish War.  Or lose it  Or get a white peace.

I may just reload to before the war.

16 Million people?

Uh... False?
How does America in your game only have under 20 m people?

Oh, it only counts those who are working males.  Total population is closer to 80 million.  Still lower then historical though.

Raz, could you provide a Great Powers screen when you get the chance, please?  Your map of Europe is pretty wild.

In my game, Canada is in 6th place.  :uffda:

Seems to be a common thing--it's happened in my current game as France as well.  I probably should have protected the Belg.
