Quote from: viper37 on Today at 09:19:14 AMYou never voted Republican in the last 30 years and always worked to promote the opposition parties?

I have voted Republican in the last 30 years.

Quote from: Admiral Yi on Today at 07:58:21 AMI don't accept any responsibility for Trump.

And yet you are entirely to blame, like all other Americans. You have made the world a more dangerous place, especially for a large swath of people that it wasn't before.

My children will know war because of you.
Colonel Caliga is Awesome.

Nothing I have done has made the world a more dangerous place.

Just like you are to blame for not doing enough to help the populace of a neighboring country?

I've championed left and progressive values for over 20 years. I've done plenty to influence Americans into a better world.

I have failed but now the responsibility is on your shoulders, what will you do? Your country myth is that you will fight against Tyranny. Tyranny is here. Wake up.

How so?

Why do you get to give up now? If this is really the end of peace as it is being posited, why aren't you devoting all efforts to an attempt to make a difference?

We get to give up on the US and focus on ourselves.

You guys are in for a rough ride these next decades, we need to focus on ourselves so you don't drag us down with you.

chipwich

The US never had the responsibility to defend Europe, especially if Europe is unwilling to defend itself. Get over yourselves.

Oh that's convenient and also a lie. After all, you individually are not going to do anything to prepare your country vs. what you could try to do to influence America.

For instance, there's nothing stopping all of you from infiltrating Republican forums and social media, pretending to be one of them and slowly riling them up against current leadership.

Totally agree. It has and continues to have a responsibility due to Nato, but I fully agree that we Europeans have abused the willingness of the US to handle defence issues.

Have tried to do that on another forum I sometimes frequent. They all seem mostly frothing at the mouth insane and totally unreachable. Makes me think of Churchill, divided by one language indeed.

For myself I've applied to join the territorial guard, if they'll have me I guess that'll be my small part in this.

Got it. So Americans are supposed to be able to reach thsoe who are 'insane and totally unreachable'? :yeahright:

That's something though do you think this is something that's going to be fought man to man on the battlefield? And if so, aren't there other things that one should try?

Note, I'm not actually saying that you have a moral imperative to do anything but if you are going to blame all Americans and tell us we need to go all out for our nation (and by proxy the West as we know it), feels odd to at the same time be sitting on the sidelines. Just claiming to be a hapless bystander.

I don't expect war and I think it's unlikely. But not unlikely enough to warrant complacency.

Since Europe is strong enough to kick Russia on our own I expect any ground war to be fought in Russia, as an old man in the Territorial Guard my job would probably be guard duty or logistics or something at home. Cleaning up after drone attacks and such.

There is a window for a decade or so that Russia can use to exploit our weaknesses. If Ukraine falls quickly they might start going for the Baltics expecting to isolate them. I don't think Sweden, Finland, Poland, the UK or France will back down if that happens and presto, war.

I don't think Ukraine will fall quickly and if the political will is there Europe will quite easily outproduce the Russians.

Quote from: Threviel on Today at 06:34:02 AMEven more than Russians all of you have a responsibility for how it's going. And all of you have a duty to resist what is happening.

Can you suggest some concrete actions that can be taken?

That's exactly what Russians reply when they try to deflect a question about why Putin is still in power.

And answers can be given.
The excuses come in follow up to those.
In the US I imagine these excuses will be far weaker than in Russia.
