Republicans have caved in to the extremists of the movement for a while now.  At least since the 70s, under Nixon.

It's been a gradual shift.  The Tea Party and Maga didn't appear out of nowhere, suddenly, one day.  It's been a slow rising movement inside the Republican party that enabled it, thrived on it and let it grow.  That party should have been wiped out from Congress after the debacle of the Iraq war and the 2008 recession.  It only grew stronger.

History has been harsh on Germany (and Austria) for not resisting nazism enough when it began.  I'm seeing images of the protests right now, and there's nothing more but an handful of people protesting each time in a country of millions.

At most, there are angry townhall meetings in Republican States.  From people complaining that they are the ones being hurt, not the others.

I voted for Bush Sr., Wubya, and Jim Leach.  I might have voted for the Republican candidate for DC mayor once during the Marion Berry era. How did those those people enable Trump?

It is absolutely wrong to treat all Palestinians as Hamas, but absolutely right to treat all Americans as Republicans.

You Euros are really hating on the Americans right now. Keep in mind that while Trumps victory contained a lot for Dems to be alarmed by it was a modest victory. The Dems ran an utterly senile old man after lying about his condition for years and then switching to a wildly unpopular candidate who barely registered in the primary.
I also have a hunch that a lot of people voted for Trump 1 - you know, not much happened, no inflation, kind of a shit show , lots of comedy. I think they are horrified by Trump 2.

Seriously, I am horrified by whats happening - none of it is going in a good direction at all. It appears to be a sort if collapse of the American political class across the spectrum - a catastrophe.

Republican politicians are scared of Trump's boys and their death threats.  Show them numbers make safety?  Show them they are not alone?

While the current US regime's hostility against Ukraine is really disappointing and will hurt considering the US support so far, Europe has both spent more to support Ukraine than the US and has the capabilities to support the ongoing war with Russia even without the US. That's what needs to be our focus now.
