I've generally had good experience with Subway. Y'all are some picky mofos.

You can choose your own toppiings.  If you don't like the flavor, put different shit on it.

Yeah I have always enjoyed their BLTs.

If the bread and most of the ingredients suck, then it doesn't matter what combination is used.

It's not a matter of which toppings you get.  The bread sucks (well, so do the toppings, by and large, but you can get around bad toppings).

What is wrong with the bread? I mean compared to the bread at the competition like McDonalds.

I never got the idea that Subway are cheap. Maybe the US and HK are different but everywhere I've ran into Subway they're really not.

In what way is Subway a non-cheap option? Definitely price competitive versus say Eat/Pret.
Eat I don't know.
Pret is very expensive, and crap. I don't go there at all.

Subway charges quite a significant amount for a sandwich. I always found small independent sandwich shops to be a cheaper and usually better quality option if that's what you want.

The daily half foot subs here are 2.99. Don't know their regular prices as I haven't been to one in ages.

Yeah, I believe a 6 inch in London is something under £4 (and I feel like at least I recall when I used to work near one they regularly had £5 meal deals) which puts on the cheap end of similarly sized sandwiches elsewhere.

Oddly enough, this is another place I agree with Tyr; I've always considered Subway food to be overpriced for the quality and size they offer.

When you've got a local shop four or five doors away that sells "footlongs" (as Subway would call them) at less than £4.00 with an equivalent or better filling in them...then Subway's offerings are not that attractive at all.

So I decided to test Subway today. Ordered a footlong with fajita chicken and cheddar, tomato, jalapeno, salad, tomato, avocado cream, onions, chipotle sauce in cheese oregano bread. Base price is 8.79, avocado was 1.40 extra. It was fine.

In my experience, the problem is not that you can choose your own toppings, but rather that you must choose your own toppings.  I never understood that mindset of running a fast food place; I'm not a fucking cook, you figure out what works well, I'll overrule you if I am indeed a cook or a fussy eater.  It may be that sometimes I am left with a bad impression of the chain because I myself do not know how to build a great sandwich.
