About time.

Edit: The Guardian reporting he's  the first senior royal to be arrested since Charles I which I think is sadly over promising :Cromwell:

Is he still a senior royal?

He's been removed from all sorts of like official roles - so not a "royal", just Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor etc.

But ultimately he's the King's brother.

While she was his mother, and therefore somewhat excused as mothers often expected to do anything for their children, I wonder if then adds some significant tarnish to the Queen's legacy.

He was arrested for the disclosure of state secrets.  Unknown whether this is information that came to light when the US files were made public or some other source.

If it was the DOJ files, the again we need to ask what the hell were the Americans doing all those years.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Protecting the rich and powerful, duh. Here in America, we don't believe in silly things like "holding the wealthy accountable" or "the rule of law applies to everyone."

So that makes it *checks notes* one arrest due to the Epstein files.

"King Charles, Andrew's brother, says authorities have 'our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.'"

Charles never did like his brother :D

What state secrets does a trade envoy have anyway?

It might be treasonous (-_-) but if this is the state of the UK, in that it could never find out anything about multiple, prominent figures that were disclosing state secrets, then it should let another nation take it over. It would clear be incapable of looking after its own national interests.

I think so.

The idea of a 20th century monarch having a "legacy" is a bit mad as they're just a breathing mannequin for the British state to position.

So if they have one it probably automatically tarnishes it because it's stepping out of/undermining the role. I think the Queen's attitude to her favourite child is definitely part of that - and the private over the public which rather undermines the whole "duty" thing.

In the short term we'll just (rightly) excoriate Andrew. In the long run I think it will reflect on the Queen.

Very long term, like history books looking back. She's too well liked to those alive during her reign. If Diana couldn't do it nothing can.

She'll still be a prominent historical figure so it would be expected she'll have a legacy. ;)

Oh yeah - by a mile. Lots of stuff about that over the years.

And it makes sense: a boy, horsey, not particularly burdened by brains, curiosity, introspection (unlike Charles) or cultural ambitions (unlike Edward).

In a way not a million from the Queen in that way.
