Quote from: Valmy on August 13, 2025, 02:17:35 PMAlso that was off topic. We were talking about population replacement and for all we know half the Hamas fans are not immigrants at all but Jeremy Corbyn supporters
That very well may be.  It's probably a coincidence.  Like people naming their kids Adolf.  Common name in the 1930's.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Quote from: Josquius on August 13, 2025, 02:14:30 PMGoogling it, it seems Yahya creeping into the top 100 is a non story that weirdly blew up in fasc circles a few weeks back.

Even if we assume it just appeared out of nowhere and every instance is a declaration of love for Hamas.... That's 583 kids.
How many Muslim kids do you suppose were born last year? 40,000 I guess?
Yeah.... Not really a ringing endorsement for Hamas.

Consider too it's a pretty common Muslim name and was previously just 33 spaces lower in the charts (so like 400 kids I guess?) that further dilutes how much of a Hamas endorsement it can be read as.

The main story here is how sad it is Raz hasn't found himself a new hobby.

Fasc circles?

Yes Raz. Fasc circles. That's where you get your world view these days. The reddit Jordan Peterson sub was a top search result.

It's a ridiculous non story.
Adolf stands out as pretty unique in one man forever ruining a name. I don't think it was too popular even before him though. Would be interesting if he had been called John Hitler.

For another one, a perennial competitor for the top boy names in the UK is Oliver.
In Ireland it's in the top 30 too.
You'd think.....

It is so weird that concern about antisemitism is "Fasc".  The story came up on my MSN feed.  Just a question: is the woman with the swastika "Fasc"?

Seriously guys, the name thing was funny because it's in conspiracy land and kinda sort of in topic, but we have a play pen for this stuff already.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

Lotta people still name their kids after John Wayne Gacey.  :(
We even just has a president who's parents named him after Joseph Stalin.

Fortunately, at least in the US things seem to be getting better. Many parents are naming their kids after Liam Neeson, the biblical Noah, and Oliver Wendell Holmes.

Too late man. People just aren't having sex anymore. It's weird.

What people are you thinking about?

Here you go. Some data.

I don't know if this source is accurate but it conforms to my anecdotal observations

50% of men under 30 have not had sex?

I think that is very unlikely.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

I've said before but I think the most disruptive and impactful (and underexplored) technology we've all just adopted in the last 15 years is possibly not social media, but the algorithmic dating app.

I've had good experiences from them, I know people who've got married to people from them. But I think on the social level and reporting in polls there are signs it's not good for men or women.

Yeah it might not be that high, but that trend is very much real.

Quote from: Oexmelin on August 13, 2025, 06:11:45 PMThere is a lot of data being collected out there on the topic.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/people-have-been-having-less-sex-whether-theyre-teenagers-or-40-somethings/

Thanks for that, I also looked up the data for teenage pregnancy and that has been on a steady decline since the early 90s.  And I doubt they explanation is teens are just being more responsible about contraception, as some are suggesting in the literature.

I've said before really depends on your market.
In some places they're horrid and depressing. Nothing gets anywhere.
I actually matched with my partner on there.... But nothing came of it. I then met her completely unrelated to this through more traditional means.
On the other hand during stays in some places...it was on fire. Very good experience indeed.

They've been impactful but I would probably put their impacts as secondary after various other things have had their way with society.

Apart from the concern that our current pension systems assume people humping like bunnies with no birth control, this is just switching social behaviours, isn't it? Nothing inherently wrong or right about it.

What probably inherently wrong is having children with the explicit purpose of having somebody take care of us in old age.

Also as a minor point, the LA Times article, it seems the worst percentage it can show is 30% in one age group yet only quotes young persons who are very consciously deciding to not have sex / not feeling the desire for it. Perhaps quoting somebody from the 70% of how they see the topic could have been useful for balance. And starting with somebody who is a declared asexual from a fundamental Christian family doesn't help painting the picture that this is a broad pandemic of prudeness, either.
