Young people. The decline of sex is a phenomena that's been observed and measured (to the extent it can with self-reporting) in Canada, US and France, to my knowledge. Maybe elsewhere too.

But because of that and stuff like Musk's weirdness on this, it's difficult to really talk about.

I don't actually think it is difficult. If you address the actual problems that are causing it. People not having kids is a symptom of a disease that must be treated.

And beyond those economic issues, you also have to deal with doomerism around things like climate. If you demonstrate that adults are actually in charge who are serious about solving problems, you would have less anti-natalism around in general I think,

I'm not sure that not having kids is a symptom of any dysfunction.  I suspect that animals in general are not designed to procreate as a rational planned decision, at least not at a high enough rate.  You're taking one for the team when you procreate, hence why it usually requires a whole lot of hormones to make you want to get the process started, and no cooling off period afterwards.

Why would that be? Even if birthrates are falling everywhere: if the native population without immigration is falling, and your population is still growing -> native population is being replaced. It's not that hard, and especially in western Europe people can see it happening by just looking outside.
If you're going from 95% native born population to about 65% native born population in about 40 years... (those are about the numbers for Belgium iirc).
In other words: the 'empty space' is elsewhere, not in recipient countries.

Edit: that said, if all the people that don't want kids die off only the people with genes that favour the desire to have kids will remain. The species might stabilize after a while, at a lower lever. Which is good for a lot of other issues.

I am not surprised there was a decline during COVID, I am surprised there is still a measurable decline at present.
