Sweden was famously one Allen key turn away from a fully functioning nuclear device in the mid 70's. I'm sure they kept a copy in a drawer somewhere...

I hope to see ever tightening Nordic defense cooperation in all areas. Personally I think working closely with the Baltics and Poland is a good idea also.

Are we finally getting the Kalmar Union back together?

Only if Finland is ruling it.

Orban made a Facebook post outlining 3 things the EU is trying to do and must not be allowed to do:

1. "keep Ukraine alive" (this is precisely what he wrote, yes)

2.finance Ukraine's military

3. Rearm itself

crazy canuck

It is worth remembering that the reason why countries like Canada and Sweden did not go the nuclear route is because of the view at the time that it would be better to severely limit nuclear proliferation.

I don't think that argument is as strong now.

The Minsky Moment

Poland is now publicly debating a nuclear weapons program.  In a world where US security guarantees are withdrawn or lose credibility, it seems likely that programs will at least be considered in Germany, Japan, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the Philippines, for starters.  If Poland and Germany build, I would assume Italy and perhaps Spain will as well to maintain status.

The Minsky Moment

Sad to say, but Canada may decide to build not because of a perceived need to deter the Russians or Chinese but as insurance policy against the USA.
