Y'all still sure about this no tariffs thing?

I'd rather tax tesla heavy (if possible). No need to flood the market with shitty Chinese products. Are any EVs manufactured in Canada?

I would piss the US government greatly to open Canadian market to China. I am in favor of decreasing the tariffs on China's EV.

I'm in a few minds about Chinese EVs...

1) I've seen a bunch of models online that I really quite like and that are different from standard North American models.

2) I hear (online) that the Chinese EVs are, in fact, really good... but, you know, online discourse. Who knows how real it is?

3) In spite of the US' recent heel turn making positive relations with China seem more attractive, I don't have a high level of trust in their intentions and quality control.

4) I know someone - via my wife - whose father died (in China) when his Chinese EV spontaneously blew up when he started his morning commute one day. This happened a number of years ago and is a single anecdote, but it still makes a fellow think, you know?

...so when you say "shitty Chinese products" when you speak about EV, what do you base it on? General sentiment about Chinese technology, or on something a little more specific and data-driven?

Partially a general feeling about Chinese products when controlled by Chinese QC. although, anecdotally, like you, I've heard horror stories about accidents like spontaneous fires to general QC issues like cars randomly bricking. I go through weird phases where (insomnia induced) I go into random rabbit holes. A year or so it was cars. And I don't even drive  . Part of that involved car reviews and horror stories. A lot of them involved Chinese horror stories.

*edit* though I suppose that those could be industry (Musk) plants, given modern media, online discourse, and the like. Although I feel if a misinformation campaign was afoot it'd  more likely be a PRC thing.

What's Poilievre and the Conservatives' line on the tariffs and the trade war?

From what I've seen drift across my screen the messaging seems to be a gesture in the direction of "it's Trudeau's fault for sucking so much", with hints of "with a Conservative government we'd probably maybe have less conflict with Trump."

Is that accurate? Or is the messaging different and I've just missed it?

Yeah it's funny... the internet has become much less useful now that the social media manipulation and search result control has become much more rampant (and / or we've become more aware of it, maybe it was always the case).

A correction to my edit, I meant to say "I suppose that those could be industry (Musk) plants". Didn't mean to imply that they definitely are, for clarification.

As to your question at hand, I think it's always been a thing. As long as there's been publishing and printing people and countries have tried to drive the narrative. I just think it's a lot easier to do now, from bots to just the fact that everyone has a phone. Not everyone read papers or pamphlets, and go back far enough and literacy was an issue so you had cranks on the street shouting out the masses. But now disinformation is at your finger tips.

I haven't seen anything yet, myself. Except for Smith saying Crude was capped at 10% thanks to her noble efforts.

Yeah for sure. But the doubt is there and it's a little more pronounced these last few years. At least for me.

Yeah, the trend has always been there, but I think that right now in this moment it's at something of an inflection point. It's much easier than it was - even 10-15 years ago - to create artificial facts that we're still trained to treat as real (photos and video), and to construct social proof via parasocial relationships - and to micro-target it via big data and social media.

What's the likelihood of pipelines going east for more trade with Europe? I mean it'd never replace the quantity traded with American, but you'd think with europe trouble with Russia and Canada's trouble with America it'd be a kismet

Gosh, she must be proud and Albertans must be grateful to her for her hard work.

Has she said anything about how she secured this gracious mercy from Trump? Did she offer anything in return or did she simply persuade him with facts and reason?
