It doesn't last well.
Freeze it, no? :hmm:

Wrecks the quality and I just have the one regular size freezer- 4 of us in the house remember.

On freezers; is it just Switzerland where everyone has a tiny one in the fridge or do other countries do that too?

I mainly get a weekly veg box and then just other ingredients around that. But you're right it would be too much for me. On the other hand I just really want an ice dispenser and a proper cold water dispenser :weep:

Freezer ice dispensers suck. Number 1 service repair.

HVC had me reassured I wasn't missing out and now I'm not so sure :(

"Another major drawback to in-the-door ice and water dispensers is that they tend to break down a lot. Repairs could set you back a few hundred bucks, including the cost of the service call."

Convenient when they work, but really not worth it. Get a tray. Or if you really want ice get a dedicated ice maker (probably not an option in Europe with kitchen size restrictions :P )

A tray is insufficient and inevitably people forget to refill it.

Yes. I like ice in my drink. I like having people round. And I like drinks with mixers. But while I have space in my kitchen that fridge can't get through the front door.

Normally have to end up buying bags of ice <_<

Huh, looks like portable ice makers are a thing.

Under counters are great though, if you like to host and have the space.

My solution is that it's our duty to eat game. Although I'm going to work out how to introduce "I have a solution: wolves" into my work emails.

Wolves?

I thought your predator of choice was lions?

Yes, but a better solution is an ice maker that stores the ice in the freezer unit.  The external dispenser always breaks down/ stops working for some reason or another.

I have a half coffin size freezer. I'd like to replace it with a vertical full size freezer one day.

Maybe you need better shit in Canada.

I wish we had a full size freezer here in Canada.  We have my brother-in-law who has a cattle ranch, and we do occasionally get a 1/4 cow frozen - if we had more freezer space we could maybe get a 1/2 cow.  That's a lot of beef to be sure, but it's quite cheap.

Tamas

The previous owners of our house left a pretty big (about as tall as me) fridge-freezer which is clearly quite old (I could see it in an old 2015 ad of the house) but very nice size-wise and works well EXCEPT for the ice cub / cold water dispenser which does not work at all. I suspect it has never been connected to the water mains, in fact, but I have not had the inclination to try and move it to find out. When something else breaks on it will have it checked out as well but otherwise won't be having the kitchen turned upside down to have it setup.

Yes, it would be better to not be so dependent on US manufacturing but here we are.
