That's the way it kinda felt way back when - you got candy and a lungful of secondhand smoke at each house.

QuoteBrazil judge orders police to clear roadblocks by pro-Bolsonaro truckers

Brazil's supreme court has ordered police to remove scores of roadblocks set up by supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro to protest against his defeat in the presidential election, while the far-right leader remained silent on the result.

The federal highway police (PRF) said truckers were blocking highways at 271 points, partially or fully, as part of protests that have spread to 23 of Brazil's 26 states in the wake of Bolsonaro's loss to Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva in a runoff election on Sunday. The police said another 192 roadblocks had been cleared.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes called on the PRF to remove all the blockades, which have been mainly organized by truckers, a core constituency of the Bolsonaro government that has benefited from its lowering of diesel costs.

Despite Bolsonaro's not yet conceding defeat and these protests it seems that most of the high level political supporters of Bolsonaro have indeed accepted Lula's victory, so this might end up being just a sore loser tantrum rather than the beginning of something nastier.

Barrister

Yeah odd story in Brazil.  Bolsonaro hasn't conceded - but he also hasn't done anything else to contest the results either.  The truckers seem to be doing this on their own.  And so far the transition appears to be proceeding as a result.

I think Bolsonaro's spokesman said he wasn't contesting the result. But as you say he's not conceding or offering congratulations.

Though obviously a good and healthy thing to do, Bolsonaro's acceptance isn't a requirement any more than Trump's was.

Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

So Bolsonaro has finally surfaced and, without admitting his defeat and Lula's victory, said that he'd follow the mandates of the consitution. Afterwards his chief of staff said that they'd not dispute the election results and would follow the transition process as decreed by the law.

So Brazil hasn't sunk to US levels yet. Good.
