Was going to post this in the thread I set up before Tommy was born & just realized that thread has gone to sleep with the rest of the old forum.
Anywho, here's Tommy about a month ago trying to wear a hat of mine. He turns 2 in late January, and is at that stage where he's starting to form more of his own phrases/sentences, rather than just parroting back things he has heard.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VA34pyB4vQ
And here he is on Halloween. For the hell of it, I had live streamed his first trick or treating on qik.com from my phone (that Android app works surprisingly well) & this is one of the of the clips I sent over to youtube.

Didn't he grow up in West Virginia? Cinci does not have a Southern accent. In fact it kinda reminds of the Phildelphia accent.

Ah, well then check out a Reds game sometime if you want to see how fat the yokels can be.
It's a pretty interesting study in demographics, actually. Bengals ticket prices keep the more obesity-prone lower classes out. Don't see many fans under 25 or over 50. Cute girls in their late 20s definitely seem to be over-reprisented.
Reds ticket prices go as low as $7, so you get all types. Lots of fat people, lots of old folks & lots of kids.

I can do that.
Earlier in the season, we had breakfast Sunday morning at First Watch. A family at the table next to us had a kid his age or slightly younger, and the kid was wearing a Steelers jersey. With *zero* prompting from me, he looks over at the kid & yells "Hey, BABY. Hey, BABY. GO BENGALTH!!!" :)
What was likely going on in his mind was that he just saw a football jersey & that triggered something about the Bengals in his mind, and he sounded aggressive even though that's just his style sometimes.
But on the surface, it looked like he was trash-talking a hated division rival, and I'll take it :)

I like football very much, but Baseball remains my favorite. I blame watching the Bad News Bears tv show a lot as a kid. That, and the fact the 3 of the 7 or so American kids we hung out with were Ricans who preferred Soccer and Baseball over Football when we played.

The ones with the shorts? Dude, seriously.
Moved Tommy to a 'big boy bed' last night (we actually just converted his crib). Last week I had caught him nearly climbing over the side of his crib, so it was time. He just turned 2 anyway, and from what I've read you're supposed to do this between 18 months & 2 years.
Anywho, it was... interesting. I made sure to tire him out before I put him to bed, and we let him stay up even later than usual, but the freedom of not being confined to bed by wooden bars was too exciting for him. Twice I had to chase him down after he escaped from his room, and then another time I walked in to find him watching a Sesame Street DVD on his TV. Finally had to stand guard next to him while he fell asleep.
It was actually better than I expected. He *hates* going to bed and likes to explore the house unsupervised, so I had visions of him keeping us up until 4:00am or waking up in the middle of the night to go downstairs & play with his train.
As it turns out, when he woke up this morning he yelled for us to come get him, apparently forgetting that he can just get up on his own :D
So my kid no longer has anything to physically restrain him from running all over the house at any given time. God help me.

Not really, it becomes pretty normal very fast.
Another week or two, you won't even notice it, and neither will he.
He will, however, now have the ability to come wander into your room at inconvenient times. Something to be aware of if you are into a little early morning pick me up, so to speak.
I'm dreading the time the twins will be able to move around on their own at night. They are already becoming adept at overwhelming room fences and hallway barriers.

Yes.
So far, so good. I was worried about him wandering around at night but he's staying put. Again he wanted me to get him out of bed this morning & I practically had to coax him into getting out on his own power.
Also, he got mad at me last night because I laughed when he farted.
Well, kid #2 arrived at 10:52 this morning. Wife went into labor at 6:15am, and contractions startedout just 4 minutes apart. When my second son was born 2 years ago Olaf was quite "eh, ok he looks nice enough. Can I play with him?".
It's only now that Olaf is 4 and his brother is 2 that they constantly bicker, take turns shafting each other out of toys or just plain ruining each others mini-projects that one has to step in to prevent either from growing up into just the person required to lead his own Vandal war party.

A lot better than I thought. I figured it would be a good idea to try to make him feel like he was a big part of everything, so I had been building up how awesome it was for him to be a big brother, how he has to protect his little sister, etc. He was standoff-ish when he first saw her because the weirdness of the situation for him (hospital, mom in bed, etc.) but warmed up to her pretty quickly.
Now we have a hard time keeping him away from her:
He's taken to her so well that you gotta keep an eye on him & make sure he's not "helping" too much with her. Now he has been a little high maintenance so it's been a pain trying to divide my time between him & shit I need to get done, but hopefully he'll adjust. I need to finish getting Lola's room finished (she's in a bassinet in our room for now), so I'm having people come over each day just to keep him entertained. I thought about sending him to his grandparents or cousins house, but that feels like pushing him away & might only delay the adjustment.
Got the wife to let me take a pic of her in the hospital (she's a bit silly about her pregnancy weight gain). This is all she'd allow:

Today was Tommy's first day at pre-school
He got to bed late last night (despite my best efforts), so he was cranky this morning to start out with. Then he didn't like how I dressed him, so I had to dig out one of his Star Wars shirts from last night's laundry. Then he decided he didn't want to go at all, so I had to coax him outside to get in the car. And then of course he trips & skins his knee when he gets to the driveway. I put some neosporin on his knee which only made it "hurt worser".
And then, the moment of truth-- we get to his class and he permanently attaches himself to my leg. I couldn't just tear him away and run out, so there was an awkward couple of minutes before his teacher found a sure-fire way to settle him down and make him want to stay: a computer game.
Good job, Dad. :)

What I didn't realize is that joystick actually moves the plane up & down. So he was pulling up & down on it like it wasn't going to have an effect, and then when the ride started the plane looked like it was out of control!
Just gotta watch out for those Australian anti-aircraft gunners :glare:
I took the kids up to Ed Anger's back yard (USAF museum at Wright-Patterson AFB). Due to multiple delays, we got there late in the afternoon, just before 4:00pm, which meant we only had an hour to try to see as much as we could. As luck would have it, 1 hour happens to be the precise attention span they have for things like that. Funny though that Tommy's legs stopped "hurting" and he no longer wanted to go home once we got to the gift shop.
Was able to get one picture before my phone battery died. Of course Tommy was over-doing his fake smile and Lola was distracted by him:

Tommy was mostly excited about the Snoopy (vs. Red Baron) puzzle and their selection of nonsensically-designed Matchbox die-cast airplanes. You know, the crap he can get anywhere else. Then he wanted an expensive model, not understanding that we'd have to put it together. Surprisingly, he did not like the astronaut ice cream, which is fine cuz that's more for me.
I had to buy the official museum catalog of aircraft, to go along with the other 20 editions I have.
When we were first pulling up to the museum I pointed out by name the F-104 Starfighter they had out in front. About 45 minutes later when we were back in the Cold War section, he asked me why they had steps that lead up to the cockpit of "the starfighter", which happened to be another F-104. Not sure if that was pure luck or not, but I rewarded him in the gift shop for it regardless.
"No toys for you, you failed to tell me about the F-104's downward firing ejection system in early models!"
So the wife made some biscotti w/chocolate last night and Lola somehow snagged one of them today.
