The Rolando McClain era with the Oakland Raiders has come to an end as ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the club will place the 2010 first-round pick on waivers. Running back Darren McFadden is now the only Oakland first-round pick since 2000 still on the team's roster. That year, Oakland selected kicker Sebastian Janikowski with the 17th overall pick.

I give every Raider  with an "inconsistent" history an initial free pass since it's the nature of the organization to make players stupid. Unless it's overweight quarterbacks with no talent to begin with.

That being said, I think a new home and surrounded by well-grounded former teammates in Courtney Upshaw and Mount Cody can give him a new start.  Even after 3 years in the league, I had no idea how young he actually is.  At 23, it's practically a bonus draft pick with NFL experience.

He was signed for a song, and if gets his head straight and pans out as even an average ILB, it's a steal.  6'4" and 259 lbs?  Just helping in shoring up the run defense with the rest of the new additions, it's a win.

Meh.  Good luck.  He still has a lot of potential, but he's a fucking idiot off the field.  That in turn leads him into being distracted on the field it seems.  Throw in the constant chance of suspension or self destruction, and he isn't a guy to build a future around like the Raiders had hoped.  For the price the Ravens paid though, he's a valid investment.

Yeah, he's been a bit of a noodlehead but he's young, and the Raiders have never been known for providing a positive player environment with structure and support.
