Fucking incredible.

The lengths the cops will go to to interfere in law abiding citizens 2nd Amendment Rights is amazing.

Nothing in the Constitution says anything about your right to bearing arms being limited to not being allowed to ahve your child place those arms in their mouth.

Only in a nation run by someone like Obama would such a breach of justice be allowed to stand.

Now here's a feel-good gun story:

QuoteThe mystery of the 132-year-old Winchester rifle found propped against a national park tree
Washington Post Morning Mix

Archaeologists conducting surveys in Nevada's Great Basin National Park came upon a gun frozen in time:  a .44-40 Winchester rifle manufactured in 1882. It was propped up against a juniper tree.

"They just happened to notice the rifle under the tree," said Nichole Andler, Basin National Park's chief of interpretation. The public will get a chance to view the rifle over the weekend.

Although staff have no idea how the rifle ended up there, "it looked like someone propped it up there, sat down to have their lunch and got up to walk off without it," Andler said.

It's remarkable that anyone was able to spot the gun back in November, as it had blended in so well with its surroundings. The unloaded gun appears to have been left undisturbed for more than 100 years; its wooden base had turned gray and was partially buried, and the barrel had rusted.

Though not in very good shape, the rifle is certainly salvageable, Andler said, and it will be preserved so it remains in its current state.

While the rifle's back story remains a mystery, the history of the place offers some clues: Great Basin was primarily a mining site at the time, but could have also been home to grazing cattle and sheep. The gun may have also been the relic of game hunting in the area.

This particular model of Winchester rifle was quite popular at the time, so it wasn't necessarily a rare and precious item for a person to leave behind. The year this particular rifle was made, 25,000 others were also manufactured. In fact, the prevalence of the gun may have contributed to a massive price drop, from costing $50 in 1873 to $25 in 1882.

Here is a close-up of the rifle:

"It was one of those things, sort of the everyman's rifle," Andler said. The gun is often referred to "as the gun that won the West," she added.

Park staff are now combing through old newspaper articles and records to try and unearth any information as to how the rifle ended up against that tree.

"It probably has a very good and interesting story," Andler said, "but it probably is a story that could have happened to almost anyone living this sort of extraordinary existence out here in the Great Basin Desert."

grumbler is en route to claim it, since he still has the receipt.

Good quality item.  Just put some boiled linseed oil on the stock and spray a little CLP on the moving parts, then rock & roll!

Of course it's not.

Of course I am not serious.

However, the difference between what I said and what gun nuts routinely say is only a (small) matter of degree - to anyone not drinking the gun nut kool-aid.

The right to keep and bear arms == you can't have a background check

or

The right to keep and bear arms == you can't tell me I can't have a shooting range in my backyard

is only slightly less idiotic than the claim that

The right to keep and bear arms == you can't tell me not to let my kid bear those arms.

Not bad, kid.  One shot, two wounds.

Quote3-Year-Old Shoots Dad, Pregnant Mom in Albuquerque Motel Room

A 3-year-old boy shot his father and pregnant mother inside a New Mexico motel room, police said Sunday. Both parents are recovering. The Albuquerque Police Department said in a statement that it appears the toddler managed to take a handgun out of his mother's purse and fire one shot in the America's Best Value Inn on Saturday afternoon.

The bullet hit the father in the buttock, exited the man's hip and then struck the toddler's mother in the shoulder, according to police. The mother, who is eight months pregnant, is hospitalized in stable condition and the father has been treated and released, police added.

Justin Reynolds said he and his girlfriend, Monique Villescas, were getting ready to order pizza when he heard a gun go off. "The next minute I realized my girlfriend was bleeding," he told NBC News station KOB. "Then I sat down and realized I was shot too." Reynolds said he immediately called 911 and grabbed towels to try to stop Villescas' bleeding.

"I just took action right away," he told KOB. "I was more worried about my girlfriend than myself and anything else that was going on. And my son because I didn't know if he had shot himself or not. He was shocked and crying. It was traumatizing." Reynolds added that he was grateful his Villescas' two-year-old daughter - who had been sitting her to her mother at the time - was not injured.

The Albuquerque Police Department said both children have been placed on a 48-hour hold. The case will be forwarded to the district attorney's office and the parents could face negligence charges, the force added.

The question is what they were doing if his buttock was near her shoulder?

Sold my Cz-82.  Great pistol and I like the 9x18mm round, but the double stack magazine was just too thick for CCW purposes.  I like the look of the Polish P-64 pistol, especially for CCW purposes (not that I even have my license yet).  AIM has some nice looking ones, and I can buy directly with my C&R license.
