Sunderland have been awful lately. Absolute disaster. Draws against mediocre mid table teams.
Things have been just that great this season that this is the way we are.
Top of the league (for now).

Bizarre ending to Stanford vs. Notre Dame soccer match in the ACC conference tournament.

https://youtu.be/KOokk-M4DwY?t=53

Great call by the ref to stop time wasting BS, followed by the most inexplicable 12 seconds of soccer I have seen in awhile.

And yes in College Soccer they stop the clock on play stoppages. So the match ends when the clock hits zero. Just to clear that up.

Do we not do indirect free kicks anymore?

Although I'm not sure on the rules of those anyway

*edit* although I guess that little "pass" makes it indirect, although I feel that goes against the spirit :D
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

Gups

The vast majority of free kicks anywhere near the opposition goal are direct as they are awarded for tripping, kicking or holding an opponent. The only common offence which will be indirect is blocking.

Thats great.
Though I guess shows the issue with things being so vague. Its expected to time waste a little just as you need to go down with the slightest touch. Its how the game works. Don't do it and you suffer.
But how much is too much...
But then if its specifically defined people will push right to that.

Never thought about that, but yeah, you don't see much of them anymore.

I was in the stadium when an indirect free kick during injury time won Bayern the championship in 2001. It was given after the Hamburg goalie picked up the ball after having it passed to him by a team mate. :)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000%E2%80%9301_Bundesliga#Title_race

(The article neglects to mention that Schalke was behind 0-2, equalized to 2-2, fell behind 2-3 again before winning 5-3. The 5-3 score was displayed on the stadium score board same time as Hamburg scored in the 90th minute. Friend and I were devastated, believing the championship gone, only to have everything turned upside down a few moments later. Unforgettable. :)

Any free kick where the referee has his arm up is an indirect one, usually they just happen far away from the penalty area. :)

Milwall - Sunderland today was an incredibly painful game.

Sunderland started well. Went 1-0 up. Surprisingly good showing considering our huge amount of suspensions and injuries - before the game we'd have been happy with a draw.

A few minutes from the end of the first half though....something happens. Play stops. Nobody has a clue what is happening for 10 minutes.
There's a medical emergency in the crowd. The teams leave the field eventually and... It's just waiting and tedium.
Eventually the players come back out and play the last few real minutes and injury time of the half...then go back inside for a regular 15 minutes half time :bleeding:

The second half sucked. Sunderland were so thrown off by this break. We hold out though and in the dying minutes a young player who came on for his first appearance misses a one on one with the keeper... Only for the ball to be booted back down the field and an equaliser scored.
Just to make the game extra painful

Swedish season is over. The team I've been following, GAIS, ended up in sixth place, which is something like the fourth best finish since the 50's and the best since 2011. We ended up as the best team in the city, Gothenburg, and won every derby (against fellow sleeping giants Örgryte in the cup, up and comer Häcken and Swedens biggest team IFK Göteborg, the main rivals, in the league) except one against IFK Göteborg.

Eternal fuckups that we are I assume that next season will go to hell.

Can Spurs play every game in Manchester please?

So next FIFA World Cup will be in Canada/USA/Mexico. The 100 year anniversary one will be hosted by Spain/Portugal/Morocco, with some matches (one match?) being played in South America. Based on FIFA rules, that means Asia is up next to host.

Only candidate was Saudi-Arabia. So after Qatar 2022, the FIFA WC returns to the Arabian peninsula in 2034. :bleeding:

German FA head said that they're aware of the human rights situation in the country but that a boycot would only have served to isolate the German FA and would be counterproductive, and that this was the best way to open a dialogue/effect change in S-A.
