Ice cubes are a way for restaurants to cheaply fill your glass.

Uhm, restaurants usually open a can or a bottle of a soft drink when they serve it to you, so I can't see how this would work.

The only place I have ever seen a restaurant serve a soft drink out of a can or bottle is Mexico.  Poland cannot into soda fountains? :(

You are from the US, right?

In Europe, in restaurants (other than fast food joints), a concept of the "free refill" is almost unheard of. In fact, most restaurants usually make the best buck on soft drinks, as they charge you high prices for tiny (0.2 litre) bottles of coke or soda.

Most places here just give a glass with soda in it.  I assume they have a fountain in the kitchen.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

If you've got a low-quality wine and you want to dilute the taste, mix it with vodka.  Even if it doesn't actually make it taste any better, at least it will decrease the time it takes for you to be too drunk to notice.
Ahh Duma...how I do not miss drinking thee at all. Gets you drunk as hell but makes you think you've been hit with a sledgehammer the next morning.

Btw, Romans drank their red wine mixed with water.

Liquid water, not ice.

QuoteIncidentally, a spritzer made of white wine, ice cubes, sparkling water and a slice of green lemon is pretty nice for summer heat.

They usually pour in front of you, at least in Poland. I guess exactly so that someone does not accuse them of having a fountain in the kitchen (considering they charge about $3 for a thin, tall glass of soda).

that's why Jesus could change water into wine, he simply mixed both and nobody noticed.

If you've got low quality wine, simply don't drink it.

Viper's friendly's advice of the week.

My inner cheap Ukrainian rebels at your suggestion.  But I've paid for it - I must find a way to drink it!
One of my cousin once brought me a cheap bottle of wine.  8$ he paid for it.  Wich means that anywhere in Alberta or the US, it would cost below 5$.
50% of the guests, including me were sick by the end of the evening.

Don't touch this.

Freeze it in ice bags for later use in cooking.

Politics, religion, morality, ethnicity, philosophy, sports -- I don't get myself too worked up about such trivialities.

But this is a serious matter.
